Going on a sheep hunt and I am wondering how tall your tripods are on for the mountains. I have a manfrotto tripod that I took the third legs off. And I am thinking of taking the second legs off too.

With second legs on and the middle bar all the way up it is 45 inches tall. With the second legs off it is 32 inches.

I know majority of glassing is done on my butt, don’t know if I will miss the second legs or not.

It’s not a huge weight savings but it’s around half a lb.

What do you guys do for your tripods.

I guess it's just me but I dont get the taking legs off tripods to save weight.

If I am sitting on my but to glass I like to be able to sit basically under the tripod with the 2 rear facing legs over my hips. This is much more comfortable than leaning forward at a funky angle to look through my binos.
This usually requires at least 2 leg sections to do comfortably.

My current tripods are a slik cf 634. A slik cf 824 and an outdoorsmans tall. I will take the weight penalty for the added height but I'm not packing them 20 miles a day. I guess if you are ounce counting you need to sacrifice somewhere but for me it would not be by butchering my tripod.
