I'm no rock hound, but I believe the rock above is melted Scotia. Did you find it near some orange rock that looks and sounds like broken pottery. I believe those are melted by coal seam fires.

I can't tell you what that stuff is but I also picked up a piece...looks identical.

Looks like a clinker. that's what you get when a power line hits the ground hot and melts everything together. I would imagine that a lightning strike would do the same.

Eastern MT has some wierd rock forms..I found this too. I looked all over the web and couldn't identify it.

This might be a fulgurite. Made from lightning hitting sandy soil. Melts the silica into weird shapes with a porous inside. I've found quite a few pieces in western ND.
