I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to bring for clothing to the Northwest Territories for a hunt at the end of August, and interested in what everyone else brings. Currently I'm thinking:

First Lite Wick 150 Crew Tee
FL Fuse 200 Quarter Zip
Sitka Timberline Jacket
KUIU Super Down Ultra Hooded Jacket
Sitka Clouburst Jacket
Black Ovis Merino Boxer (2)
FL Fuse 200 Long John
Sitka Mountain Pants
KUIU Super Down Ultra Pants
Sitka Cloudburst Pants
Darn Tough Hiker Full Cushion Socks (2)
Sitka Jetstream Beanie
First Lite Merino Beanie
First Lite Midweight Gaiter
Sitka Ascent Gloves
FL Brooks Down Glassing Mitts
KUIU Yukon Gaiters

I'm contemplating bringing a FL Uncompahgre Jacket instead of the Super Down, as well as another mid-layer like a Sitka Kelvin Active Jacket or a Core Heavyweight Hoodie. Last year it was cold -- like 10*F some mornings -- and I want to be more prepared than I was then, but also not be overpacked or weighed down by clothing.

Hat: ball cap and Cabelas wool and insulated billed cap to keep rain or snow off my glasses
Gloves: 1 pr Kuiu Guide Gloves, 1 pr Dickie rubber faced cloth work gloves (6 pair for $15 in COSTCO, Canada) and another pair of no-name fleece plus insulation gloves
Socks: 3 pairs of COSTCO merino hiking socks
Top: 2 Paradox (COSTCO) long sleeve zip neck tees that are poly/ merino blend, a Cabelas Microtex button shirt, KUIU 240 Peloton full zip hoody, KUIU original Super Down hooded puffy, KUIU Chugach NX rain coat
Bottom: 1 pair of merino boxers, 1 pair of Paradox poly/merino (COSTCO) long underwear, 1 pair of KUIU zip-off 240 weight (I think) long johns, 1 pair of KUIU Attack pants, KUIU original Super Down puffy-zip offs, KUIU Chugach rain pants

System has worked from Aug 1- Oct 15 hunting the north country for sheep, Mt caribou, etc. Numbers include what I am wearing. Good luck!

Last year was terrible weather as falls go. I’m not saying go unprepared as it could happen again, but you are talking about a lot of clothes.

2 pairs darn tough merino socks
2 pairs saxx underwear
1 pair kuiu attack pants
1 pair superdown pants
FL uncompahgre jacket
1 capilene t shirt
1 long sleeve capilene midweight shirt
Kuiu yukon rain jacket and pants
Kuiu yukon gators
minus 33 stocking cap
When it gets real cold I can put puffy on then rain gear and pretty much handle anything. My temps are 15-60 degrees F. 10 days. I try to minimize what's brought.

I do like that timberline jacket, but I’ve been cutting it out lately and wearing a warm mid layer and if I need more wind resistance just wearing my hard shell.

This is a tough call for me as well. I wore a KUIU Peloton 200 Hoodie as a mid-layer last year and it didn't get much use. It always seemed too warm (I think I only hiked in it once or twice over the 10 day hunt) or not warm enough for the situation. I figured the Timberline would be a good wind breaker as well as quieter, more durable, and breathable if I had to hike in it than the rain shell. Plus it's only 15 oz. I'm also considering bringing a Kelvin Active Jacket or my OR Ascendant Jacket (both ~13 oz.) for this layer instead.

My clothes seem to get a little tweaked each season as I reduce clothing an wt. just about every year. Last year was La Sportiva Nepal GTX boots, Darn Tough socks, Ex Officio synthetic underwear, Kuiu zip off merino pants, Kuiu Yukon gators, UL wt. synthetic shorts, HPG belt, Kuiu zip T merino shirt, and my daily wear, Alaska Raft and Kayak oiled ball cap. In my pack was an extra pair of underwear, socks, Kuiu Chugach jacket and pants, Goose Feet down pants, Kuiu SD down jacket, Sitka gear blizzard beanie, and 8 oz. camp shoes. That was all for clothing.

I was in the NWT at the end of Aug last year through early Sept, and weathered several snow storms. My Kuiu Superdown jacket and pants under full Yukon were not enough for me when glassing. I froze my ass off. Everyone said it was the coldest weather they had ever seen in August, but if was going again, just in case that happened again, I would also take a heavier mid layer like you would wear on a whitetail hunt in a tree stand. Nothing made by Kuiu or FL even though everything else in my pack was. For me it would be my favorite base layer for deer hunting, the discontinued ECWCS hoodie from Cabelas. I know that is blasphemy, but I was wishing I had brought it every day I was there.

I can say with absolute certainty that I have never even thought of hunting in shorts before! Did your boy kill that ram? In any case, what a cool memory for you two.

Yeah he did, and shorts with synthetic long johns are much lighter than pretty much any pant available. We also had rain gear, but only wear them when it’s raining or just really wet out.

Brooks range float trip 10 day

Worn:
FL aerowool qz top
FL red desert boxer
Liner socks and Darn Tough extra cushion
Patagonia r1 hoody
OR ferossi hoody
Eddie Bauer guide pants
KUIU gaiters
Mesh back ball cap

In pack:
Kifaru parka
Arcteryx beta ar jacket
Patagonia mil spec puffy pants
OR foray rain pants
1 pair extra socks
Sitka windstopper gloves and hat
OR down mittens
OR rain mitts

At river:
8oz backcountry down anorak hoody
Merino long johns
Extra merino top
Extra socks/boxers
Waders/wading boots
Grid fleece top and bottom (nice in raft)

Being a float trip it is easy(and a good idea for obvious reasons) to have some extra clothes at the river. If the weather turns colder, the option to throw along an additional layer is nice.
