Just recently picked up a Tikka 6.5 creedmor I've already decided I'm going to use eld-m after reading the threads on match bullets and smaller caliber success. What I'm not sure of is which weight I want to use 140 or 147 is there any noticeable difference between the effectiveness of the 2 if kept above 1800 fps impact velocity?

I’ve been shooting the 140 with great results, I just got a box of 147s though to try out. I don’t see how the 140 could be a bad choice.

I found the ELD-X very easy to tune. Actually the first load I tested produced 1 inch goups at 200yards. I haven't tried the ELD-M.

Never have tried the 140s since I have always been able to find the 147s for cheaper. They have shot good from every 6.5 I’ve tried them in and kill even better in our sample size of 5-6 from 55-600ish yards on deer and elk.

The 140 ELDM shot really well out of my Tikka, so I just stuck with it. Pretty destructive and has done similar carnage from what I've seen from the bigger ELDM (225's). Haven't pushed the lower limits of the velocity at all, my longest shots I've had were just over 300 yards. No experience w/ the 147, but would shoot it. The 6.5 thread has a ton of good pics to see what they'll do:

Well Ive already picked up some 147s just haven't loaded/shot any yet it sounds like if they shoot good there's not point in trying out the 140s

For sure, if they shooter for you then buy more and stick with what’s working for you.

Within the last week I have personally shot and/or seen in person 2 does shot with 147s, one doe shot with the 140s and both did more than enough damage, maybe even a little too much. Just use which ever groups the best and you shouldn’t have any problems.

They work great - we've killed a few animals with the .224 88 gr, .264 147 gr, and .284 180 gr.

OP your rifle might have a preference between the two but for a hunting load, may not make much difference.

I’ve loaded up a bunch of 140s to shoot this off season. I hunt with the 143 ELD-X, simply cause my rifle shoots them so well and I have two boxes of them.
