I've read a lot of people use yoga mats for gun cleaning stations. I want to make sure the solvents don't go through the pad as I do this at my desk in the house. Has anyone done this? The one I bought is probably 1/8" thick from Walmart for $8.88 and is made of "PVC foam".

For what it's worth (fwiw), the inexpensive Allen-brand gun mat at Walmart is about $15.

Is there a danger of using this material as a gun-cleaning mat?

It would probably be fine, but id suggest throwing a contractor bag under it to keep anything from leaking through.

After much research, I opted for a yoga mat. It's cheap and I haven't experienced any leak-through or degradation from oil and solvent. I marked it so the same side goes down each time I use it. My wife puts them under the sinks too.
