    Bulls and cows

I have a bull rifle tag that I drew this year, while scouting last week I found a herd of cows with a nice 6 point, even heard a couple of soft bugles. Due to work my hunt will begin on Monday (10-16) 10 days after my scouting trip. When I get out there are the bulls likely to still be hanging...

    7mm-08 for black bear

Was thinking ground blind for the reasons you stated. Also I don't own a tree stand. Thanks for all the help.

    7mm-08 for black bear

Was planning on unit 11. How far before the hunt should we establish a site? I helped a guy set one up years ago and he shot a bear the next day, but I would like to have it up long enough to get some pics on trail cams and know what's in the area before we hunt it. Thanks!!!

    7mm-08 for black bear

Thanks guys, I've heard bears can be tough to bring down, we'll take the 08 out with confidence now.

    7mm-08 for black bear

My 12 yr old son would like to shoot a black bear this spring. He has a 7mm-08 Tikka compact is this enough gun, using 140gr Accubonds? Would there be a better bullet? Currently plan on baiting in Idaho so should be able to set up less than 100yds.

    Muzzleloader Options

I'm using the no excuses 460gr bullet, 85 gr 777 ffg (I would like to use more but my groups open up), and musket cap. You need to use something between the bullet and powder or it won't group at all. I had good luck with a traditions "wonder wad" but ran out and don't have a local source so...

    Muzzleloader Options

I picked up a knight bighorn to hunt Idaho this year. I put a Williams peep sight on it and I am happy with it. After tinkering with the load I am fairly confident in shooting out to 200.

    Dovetail ramp for Lyman globe

I bought a Lyman 17a globe to throw on the front of a knight bighorn, the marble ramp with dovetail I bought is too loose for the Lyman sight, does anyone here have a similar setup and know where I can find a ramp that will fit my barrel and this sight?

Accuracy with the no excuses 50 Cal 460gr bullet

Could be, but when I use the wonder wad they seem to all group together regardless of fit. The wad is a thick piece of wool cloth cut to the diameter of my barrel. I think the idea is it protects the base of the bullet from becoming disfigured by the burning powder.

Using BH 209 without 209 primers

Tell me more about synthetic oil and caps. I use musket caps and T7 FFF but find I need to swab after every shot or I get a significant crud ring. If there is a way to avoid this I would love to learn it.

Accuracy with the no excuses 50 Cal 460gr bullet

I am okay with the fit even the easy ones fit tight enough for me. What I don't like is the variability. If they were all the same that would be great.

Using BH 209 without 209 primers

I didn't consider the bullet moving off before the main charge ignites. I probably won't do it, might be fun to try someday though. If I bite the dust my family will do very well financially, I just don't want to be eligible for any Darwin awards.

Accuracy with the no excuses 50 Cal 460gr bullet

I am a little concerned with bullet fit. I haven't shot a whole box yet but within my box fit has been somewhat variable. Some go down with very little force, but not so little that I would be concerned of the bullet coming off the powder. Most load with a bit more force, and a few I really...

Forgot to mention these groups were at 100yds off a bench.

Accuracy with the no excuses 50 Cal 460gr bullet

Got to shoot a little today. Shot groups using 70, 75, and 80 gr of FFG. Groups were 2 1/4, 2, and1 5/8 inches however the 80gr group only consisted of 2 shots, I forgot to use the wonder wad on one shot and that one didn't hit the target at all. The wonder wads make a world of difference...

Using BH 209 without 209 primers

I hunt in Washington and Idaho. To the best of my knowledge BH209 is legal to use, however the 209 primers are not legal, and you can't use BH 209 without the 209 primers. I have been thinking of loading up with maybe 5gr of 777 FFFG and then a load of BH 209. I am thinking my musket primer...
