Im not talking ideal scenario and shot, but in most scenarios is it enough to 700 yards? accubonds or bergers or eldx/m?

I haven’t taken game yet with mine but Facebook group for 6.5 prc has several successful kills at that distance for elk.

The search feature can be your best friend - search "6.5 Elk" and you will turn up a bunch of discussion on 6.5 caliber bullets and their performance on medium/large game.

I used ELDMs last season, penciled through a cow at 300. Switched to Berger’s (156g) for deer and got the results I wanted. Also was blowing up ELDM 147gr this winter - will be using Berger’s only. Tons of threads on why to avoid the ELDMs if your gun likes the Bergers.

At 8500ft elevation, in my rifle, the 156g Berger’s are still carrying KE >1400ft lbs at 950yards, so yes - 700 is good. They are leaving my barrel at 2997fps

What app are you using to determine your KE. I’ve ran a couple number on “Ballistic Advanced edition” and it seems off from a lot of numbers

Well I've been debating between the nosler 28 and 6.5 prc. I already have a creedmoor. Old 270 and 308

I'm thinking I'm going to go with Partitions if I can get them to shoot well enough. Hoping to have a much closer shot than 700!

They are pretty different chamberings.. One has a case capacity of 101 grains and the other about 69. A PRC is a lot closer to a creedmoor than a 28 nosler.

The PRC is step up from the creed but it's close enough that I would say go with the 28. On paper that round is pretty awesome. I have heard it can be a little punishing at the range though.

I have both the 28 and 6.5 PRC. If you are mostly hunting deer and antelope with occasional elk I’d go 6.5 prc. Cheaper to shoot, easy to load for, less recoil, easier to shoot, and in my case much lighter to carry around the mountain. If I were looking for a dedicated elk rifle I may go 28 or Most likely a big 30.

Right so I didn't know if it was worth it over the creedmoor or go with the 28 nosler and have that much more power

28 Nosler kicks like a kitten with a quality brake. Shoot mine with a Area 419 Sidewinder and is very manageable.

The 28 Nosler would definitely bring the biggest diversity to your current lineup. Its an ideal long range elk rifle round if that's what your after. That said, for the intended use you described I'd say the 6.5PRC makes a lot more sense for several of the reasons described above. And if I just wanted a dedicated longish range elk rifle I'd probably tend more towards a 300 PRC or just a 300WM.

That said, I'm not a long range guy - I've hunted out west all my life and never taken a big game animal past 400 yards. My only big game rifle for about 20 years was a 6.5x55. It had no problems with elk or moose - but none of those were past 200 yards.
Enjoy- always fun to get a new toy!

i can't speak for the 6.5 PRC but for bullet selection i think it's worth looking into the sierra gamechanger. nice heavily constructed bullet that held together very well for me. 308. Win 2650fps with 165gr gamechanger had very good expansion and held together going through left shoulder and lodging in offside shoulder leave a nice wound channel and shattering bone on 285in bull elk at 285 yards. with that type of bullet performance i'd be confident with any 6.5mm.
