14 yr old, New ruger american 7mm 08, must be Ca compliant unfortunately. 300yrd max.

Trying to avoid a round search. Anybody have any success stories/favorite rounds for this gun?

Thanks

Barnes 120gr ttsx or nosler 140gr etips are the 2 I have firsthand experience with in 7mm08. The 120s recoil noticeably less and I have had very good success using them for the handful of deer and antelope Ive taken with them out to about 200 yds, all with consistent exit wounds larger than bullet and all Bang/flop kills. In my rifle they’re still north of 2000fps at 400 yards so I would be plenty condident in them expanding properly well past 300. The noslers are more accurate out of my rifle.

Barnes 120 ttsx have killed quite a few animals for me. The gmx shoot well but I don’t have any on game experience with them.

The now discontinued GMX worked very well, hopefully the CX will be the same or better

As a youth, using a 7-08 I killed several cow elk and mule deer bucks with both the 120 and 140 Barnes ttsx. Both work, 120 has my vote with 300 yard max little faster, little less recoil. Worked like a charm.
