Taking family up to Fairbanks this weekend, hopefully to introduce them to the aurora display i've come to enjoy on my caribou and moose trips the last several years. We plan to rent a 4x4, hit haul road to see pipeline, the arctic circle sign, do some outdoor sports, but is there any where...
does anyone have a good recommendation for on the ground help in Fairbanks to meet an air taxi w/game bags of moose, help unload such, and then deliver it to/place in cold storage? Assuming we take a moose on a two man hunt, we would hope to not have to have a hunter leave the field, leave a...
so just want some input on possible camp locations as I pour over my sat imagery.
so on hypothetical moose lake shown, would you camp and call from A, B, or C?
I would possibly think C even though I can't see the rest of the lake, but can see a focused area.
There's no elevation here to utilize...
Sights and notes from my 2021 DIY Alaska Moose Hunt. I did this trip in 2020 w/my son, and we were successful in taking a black bear and moose. The report from that trip is in this thread: 2020 Trip w/Son.
In 2021, we used the same basic blue print as 2020, I just went with a friend this time...
Got this pack as a RMEF Life member drive, really didn't use it much since I already had a pack. Moving now, would rather sell it than move it. $150 plus actual shipping, btw for reference I got shipping quotes to TX and CO, and it was about $25. Used very little, never seen blood. Hip belt...
Trying to determine the best approach for bringing meat back from FAI to the lower 48 later this year.
Last year I used AK Trophy Express at a cost of $950 for the truck and $150 for the local storage, so $1100.
For 632 lbs, that computed to a total cost $1.74/lb.
What other solutions have...
Wife's pack. Rarely used, never for game. Excellent condition. No stains. Pack itself is only 3 lbs, 0.8 oz. Bought new for $289, plus added two accessory pockets, cost $24 each = $337 total cost. Selling $225 TYD
So I didn’t take a bull on my father son moose hunt, but we found some nice sheds. Made a rack for my wall until I can get back to AK next year, to take one of my own. Anyone else mount sheds?
Did my first AK DIY last year to take a caribou. Decided to go back this year after a moose, or two. With an 11 day season two would be unlikely, but a possibility.
Got there a few days early to go up the haul road to scout some grounds and see if it makes sense for a future low budget caribou...
So headed to moose hunt in September, but have a fishing question. We're landing on a good size lake, with a stream that seems to slowly flow into and out of it, in two places connecting it to other small lakes. Should we expect to only catch pike, or would there be other fish in that kind of...
So prepping for an AK moose trip in Sept. I'll be on a lake w/possibility of long range shot across such. I have a 7mm Rem Mag dialed in w/139 gr. Barnes VOR-TX LR, LRX Polymer Tipped Boat Tail, proficient and regularly practice at long range.
Thinking of the moose' body mass, I decided to...
Just got my air taxi contracts for a Sept Alaskan moose hunt, and shocked to find a document prohibiting antlers be left attached to skull. My dream is a European mount, so not sure about how this would work. Are other transporters requiring this? Have you done this and still had a euro mount...
Trying to determine if it’s worth toting something to take a ptarmigan if presented the opportunity on my upcoming bou hunt. I’m flying out of Kotzebue on 9/10. If so, I plan to carry a .45 ACP pistol with #9 shot that I’ve patterned quite well at 10-20 yds. Since the .45 wouldn’t be adequate...
I haven’t hunted the haul road. I have only read about the nightmare of hiking across the tundra tussocks to get in to the 5 mile rifle zone.
Anyway im sure it’s been tried, but would a snowshoe would work for walking on it?
