    Sleeping Bag recommendation

The room is quite good. I’m 5’11”, 190 lb and I have the long version. It’s very comfortable for me and I generally find mummy bags to be difficult to sleep in because they are too constraining. The only thing I can’t speak to is durability since I have less than 20 nights in it, but so far it’s...

Trucks/SUVs from the last 10 years with Manual Transmissions?

Nissan vehicles just aren’t as reliable as Toyota, and that’s really a result of the Renault merger back in ~2000. The French don’t value quality like the Japanese automakers do. They use cheaper parts, and the overall quality just isn’t as good. That said, I own a Nissan Titan and I’ve been...

What are the best vacuum sealers for the money?

I’ve had several foodsavers and my personal experience has been pretty much in line with their reputation: you normally get a couple of seasons out of one and it goes in the trash. That said, I’m now on my third year with one of their more basic models (I think it was <$100 if I remember), and...

Trucks/SUVs from the last 10 years with Manual Transmissions?

Nissan Frontier is an option. Not as reliable as a Tacoma but if you got one with low enough mileage you would probably be happy with it and they’re much cheaper than the Tacoma if you buy it used. The main thing I would say with any Nissan is to do your homework with regards to known problems...

    30-06 thoughts.

There are definitely more efficient cartridges from a ballistics/recoil perspective, but if the .30-06 you have shoots well I would say don’t mess with success. There’s a reason it has persisted as one of the most popular big game cartridges for so long.

    Sleeping Bag recommendation

For some reason REI gets overlooked by hunters, but I would check out their magma 15 bag. It’s probably the best value in a piece of gear that I own. It’s an 850 fill and weighs less than two lbs. Very comfortable and definitely lives up to its temperature rating.

    Sitka cloudburst

I would say that’s a pretty solid endorsement with regards to durability. The membrane of any Gore-Tex product will get clogged up eventually and become less breathable over time. My understanding is that the best way to mitigate the problem is to clean it regularly.

    Sitka cloudburst

I’ve been debating picking some up myself. My brother in law purchased some last year, and the verdict from him is that it is terrific at keeping you dry and that it breaths quite well. Overall he said he’s been very happy with it. The only downside he mentioned is that it is noisy when walking...

ISO recommendations for a good entry level tripod primarily for glassing with binos and a small spotter.

I second the Benro slim carbon w/S2. Great value, and relatively light.
