Keep the invasives and junk trees at bay. Figure out what you want to come back to timber and prescribed fire everything else every 3 to 4 years to keep the native plants and cover.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I know I have a lot of research to do on a state and GMU. My expectations are not that high, just hopeful for a chance and some luck. Maybe we can get out there a few days early and gain some permission on private land.
Initially Colorado wasn't on my radar and after comments here it's more than likely out of the picture. Thinking Utah or Idaho but open to other states.
He is 55, in good health and physical condition. Realistically, we expect to have to go to a unit with rough terrain to get away from the average hunter.
Would we not be able to get away from other hunters? I hunt public land in TN that gets heavily pressured but I can always find pockets where other hunters do not go.
So...trying to plan an elk hunt with my uncle for 2023. I cannot get him to commit to archery so it looks like a rifle tag is needed. I've never been out west, he has been to Montana once but that was 20 years ago. What are our best options for a tag and somewhat of a chance at a decent elk? We...

He came running right under my stand chasing a spike off of his does on December 1st. I could not get him to stop. I shouldered my rifle but my scope was turned all the way up, a mistake that cost me this buck. Well above average buck for my area! Our season is open to the weekend after New...
I check zero a month before season opener and only check it again if the gun takes a hard hit. A good scope with good rings and bases should not lose zero.
I started saddle hunting last year on public and private land. I love the mobility of it. My current public land setup is a phantom saddle, predator platform, and timberninja outdoors carbon fiber sticks. Saddle hunting is a sickness and you'll constantly be tinkering with your setup and...
You said wildlife commission so I'm guessing public land? If so, how heavily pressured is it? Here in the southeast, if a public parcel has food plots you can bet its been hunted and deer will not feed in the plot during daylight hours after the 1st week of the hunting season.
I would set up...
