Well, I just got the new superdown hooded jacket in the mail. First impressions of the jacket are so-so....
The jacket sizing is very small compared to the "made in Canada" sizing. I'm 5'11" 170lbs and the size large just fits. I would even say a bit tight in the arms and wrist. And I have fairly slim arms. The old Kuiu I am a med top.
The stretch fabric does not seem to have much stretch at all, so getting the right size is very important.
For a down jacket, I was expecting a bit of a puffy jacket. This jacket is far from a traditional down jacket. The baffles lay flat and really don't seem to puff up. Also the distribution of down is not even. When I hold the jacket up to a light, some baffles are dark and full and others seem thin and have minimal down in them.
The Kuiu web site states the jacket will be 850+ fill power, the tag on the jacket states 700FP? I'll have to call Kuiu to find out why.
I'm headed to Northern Alberta over x-mas so I'll be able to see how warm this jacket will be. I'll add to this post with the results.
Cheers,
Todd
