6mm/6.5

6.5 PRC
One mule deer at 713 yards with the Berger 156 EOL roughly 2025 impact velocity according to my calculator. First shot was double lung then a poor follow up shot that was rushed broke the back leg. He was dead within about 45 seconds.
6.5 PRC
One cow elk with the Berger 144 LRHT at 892
With a 1910 impact velocity one shot double lung. She didn’t flinch at all upon impact and then tipped over about 10 seconds after standing still.

Got my bull at 912 yards this year. 140 eldm out of a 22 in PRC. Impact was around 1900 fps. Two shots in the vitals. One was a pass through and one was recovered on the far side hide. Bull made it 10 yards. 808E1427-2EE3-46C2-BEB9-A4C57D6E47EB.jpeg

Two other elk recently. One at 485 and one at 775. Same thing. Put it in the vital and they don’t go more than a few steps.

From my experience with people, take their distances and cut them in half and it will be a more accurate description of what happened.
Skepticism is fine. But a person would need to be willfully ignorant to think that thousands of animal per year don’t get killed stone dead with cartridges that are “too small” and distances that are “too far” for the game in question. Believe it or not. No less meat in my freezer….

I hear there may be a few memes on the thumbnails on this hunt....

This was a 484 yard shot out of my 6.5 Creedmoor, Savage Lightweight Hunter, Hornady Precision Hunter, ELD- X 143 grains.

What’s penetration been like out past 6-700 yards? Obviously it’s making it to the vitals but anything else to note?
Completely effective wound channels.

May, or may not, get an exit dependent upon projectile selection and velocity when the bullet hits the animal.

im finding they make it to the far side and catch at the hide. Alot of times the jacket will shed .
Cool. On the 6.5mm eldm I see similar. The farther the range the more the bullet holds together obviously. Excited to try 6mm eld-m/x on bigger targets!

Mule deer buck at 620, 6.5 Creedmoor 140 ELD-M at 2850 MV. Impacts around 2140 fps. One bullet went through the femur, recovered mid body under the hide. Other went through the shoulder socket and was recovered opposite side under the hide. Deer never made it out of a 10 yd circle before rolling downhill.
Mule deer buck at 570, same rifle and load. One hit between heart/lungs. Deer took a couple of steps uphill before turning and going down.
Mule deer buck at 525. 140 ELD-M at 2830 MV. One hit through the heart. Ran straight down a steep slope for about 50 yards before going down.
A buddy's spike elk. 6.5 Creedmoor, 2850 MV. 1050 yards. Hit just forward of the high shoulder area in the neck, directly through the spine. Nearly baseball size exit. Elk dropped, never took a step and was dead at recovery.

I've had 20 plus elk and deer bite the dirt with 140-142 6.5mm pills. One interesting thing I've seen is that when I get 600ish or beyond and the elk do not see or smell me, they tend to die damn near where they stood. Rarely do the other elk run. I get called a liar, but I have more bang flops with my 2900fps 140gr 6.5's than my 300rums.

What specific bullets have you used?
