Looking for some results people are seeing with this powder and what calibers you are using it on. I picked up 4lbs to play with for my 6CM.

Thanks !

I have 5lbs I need to start testing. A buddy of mine has tried it in his 6.5cm and said he got good accuracy but didn't get blazing velocity like was advertised. I don't remember any of his numbers off the top of my head. He did try it in his 7mm-08 and said he was getting better velocity than expected. Sorry I don't have any of his numbers to share. Hopefully here soon I'll find some time to work something up for my 6.5cm.

I developed a load with staball and 145 lrx for my 7mm-08. It shoots pretty good at 0.9 MOA and 2850 fps out of a 22 inch barrel. I developed another load with H4350 that is 2720 fps and 0.5 MOA. Gonna try developing a new load with 131 hammer hunters next.

I used it In a 22-250ai and then a 22cm. Worked well, pressured up quick when it did doing load developmentin the summer. I switched that load the h4350 when it showed back up.

Awesome. Thanks for all the input. I would be geeked if it would work in my 300WSM too but for now I'm just worried about a confident match/yote load.

I haven’t played with 6.5 Staball but have had good results with Imr 4451. Burns a little cleaner and about .5 gn difference between h4350 for similar results. Haven’t worked up a 708 load with it yet

30-06:
Staball at 59.8gr, FED210, Rem case at 2.484", 168gr TTSX at 2.579"BTO, 2990fps 24" Vanguard

300WSM:
Staball at 68.4gr, FEDgm215m, Norma case at 2.090", 175gr LRX at 2.175"BTO, 3100fps 23" Xbolt

6.5Creedmoor:
Staball at 45.3gr, Winchester LRP, Hornady case at 1.910"
120gr Etip at 2.195"BTO, 2840FPS 20" Vanguard
127gr LRX at 2.208"BTO, 2853fps 24" Vanguard
By far the hardest to develop. I couldn't get Federal small primer brass to not nipple the primer at lower charges. The 20" gun sees pressure before the 24" gun, hence the two different loads.

7-08:
Staball at 50.3gr, CCI200, Rem/Barnes case at 2.025", 145gr LRX at 2.234BTO, 2900fps 20" Vanguard
This was a 12 shot string and a flat spot from 2890-2907 at 50.0 to 50.5gr. Easiest of the bunch.

I loaded up a bunch of 6.5 StaBall for my CM to see how it stacks up against H4350. Found it was slower by maybe 50+ FPS but maybe didn’t give it enough powder to shine.

I’ve been happy with it in my 6CM comp rifle. Good velocity, great accuracy and low SD.

Anymore, I prefer to throw loads for my higher volume guns. StaBall works really nice for that.

I used it for 6.5 CM with 123 SMKs, got a 3,050 fps out of my 24" 8 twist Lija barrel. I used Starline brass and Fed 210 primers. It meters well and I had ES under 20.

Accuracy and velocity wise it fits right in with my primary creedmoor powders, if I had more of it I'd probably make use of it there. They should have named it staball 7-08, best thing I've found for that round with 150's since rl17. In my experience it hits pressure really sudden like up around max, definately work up in smaller increments.

I've used a little and plan to use some more. It won't replace the Hodgdon Extreme powders for me when I'm playing for keeps. It throws well like ball powders do while being MORE temp stable, you can fit a lot into a case due to it's density, and its one of the easier powders to find right now. It can also produce decent to very good velocities in a decent spectrum of chamberings.

There's a thread titled "New Winchester Staball 6.5 ball powder" on SnipersHide with over 650 posts comparing notes, if you don't have anything else to do today.

Whats your recipe if you don't mind sharing for a starting point? I'll be using the 108 ELDM
