I've gotten all mine from amazon. I'd say start around 35, you can probably add on pretty quickly. I'd also recommend finding a class to learn the movements. Kettlebells are great only downside is when you get stronger you have to buy a new one and they're not cheap. I started with a 35, went to a 60, now my 80 is too light, but I don't wanna drop the cash on a 90.

I assume CrossFit places would be where to look for a class?

Negative.

Look for a kettlebell instructor. Start with Strongfirst and look for an instructor from there.

CrossFit tends to bring out the worst of kb's.

I would highly recommend instruction from a qualified instructor. I am lucky enough to be a member of a kettlebell gym owned by one of the top Strong first guys. Form is key! The kettlebell movements can be awkward when beginning,

I cringe when I see people doing these movements in gyms and TV. Also watching intro classes, it can take a lot of practice to get the movements proper with out injury.

I believe I started with 16KG and 20KG and worked up from there.

It will vary with how much you want to get into it and what movements and workouts your doing.

It I had to buy one to start it would be 20KG. A set of doubles if you can swing it (movements are move advanced).

Swing is king,

Work on your turkish get-up. Probably the most technical as far as form and balance.

Farmer carries/walks.

That should keep you busy for a while

As long as they're a good coach. Just like any group of people there's good and bad CrossFit coaches. If there's alot of horror stories of people getting hurt at that box I wouldn't seek advise there, if there's a bunch of jacked injury free people at it, I would. Trainers are kinda hit-n-miss, I've seen some really, really good ones and some really really bad ones. I'd ask around and see if one in your area has a good reputation. I was fortunate that there was a weekly kettlebell class at the Anytime Fitness I used to go to.

The problem with kettlebell specifically is that they appear to be a rather simple exercise, when in fact they are an extremely technical lift that requires extensive knowledge and training. A strongfirst course will spend the same amount of time teaching 3 to 4 kettlebell movements as CrossFit requires for their entire level 1 certification.
Kettlebells are a wonderful tool for exercise but they can also be a very efficient means of destroying a spine if not used properly. In my opinion, learning kettlebells properly requires a specialist rather than a general education trainer.

I just bought a set, 35, 44, 53 lb....shipping right now. I can always add lighter or heavier when needed.

Unfortunately Rogue stuff shipped to Canada is ridiculously priced, so I went with a CDN equivalent, the products look the same and have good reviews.

Anybody have a good free resource for workouts from beginner to beast? It's a little overwhelming when you google it.

There are a few warehouses that buy up CrossFit gym equipment when they go out of business and then wholesale to new CrossFit gyms that open....and then do it over again. But anyway, Usually $1 a lb on kettlebells and I’ve bought several there. Check Craigslist for something similar In your area

I bought my Rep kettlebell direct and saved a little bit of money vs. buying the same weight from Amazon. I recommend comparing both if anyone decides on getting a Rep. I have their sandbag too and really like it.

why not just join a gym ? cheaper, MUCH cheaper in the long run I'm on the "left coast" (OR), belonged to 24HR fitness for years then got fed up with their B.S. and joined Anytime Fitness, like the 24 Hr access, some are better than others but each will get me as good a WO as I want for that day
IF you are rural or small town, usually a local Independently owned gym will be at least "good enough" and most exhibit pride of ownership that goes above and beyond - It might be "inconvenient" to drive there but once you are there you'll be 10x more motivated to EXERCISE and CONCENTRATE on it ……. IMO of course (50+ years tossing weights around and pushing my cardio limits)
