What am I doing wrong, I feel like I have some buckles in the wrong spots and the lid I don't think is right?

You have it hooked up right, but there are extra unused buckles because the Highcamp is set up with k-connectors in place of male fastex buckles that the other pack bags use. On my Highcamp I swapped out the k-connectors for male buckles on the lid straps because it seemed easier to get into the pack that way. You can run it however works best for you.

Cast and blast do you have any pics. That seems like a better way to do it.

You can replace the kclip (top) with a male buckle (bottom)
Different pack and lid, but you would be going from this configuration

to this configuration

I hope that makes sense. You can also do the same with horizontal compression straps, but I like the way you have it set up better.
