As far as elk country goes in the mountains, generally what are people’s thoughts on the varying terrain between Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho...... I know every state holds pockets of different ecosystems but it seems as though from what I’ve seen for example Utah compared to Colorado, seems in subalpine Colorado it’s more heavily forested than subalpine Utah......maybe it’s just west compared to east sides of the Rockies

Idaho is steeper than the kitchen wall with forests to match.

Northern ID=heavily forested, lower altitude, thick.
Central ID=sparser forest, but higher altitude.
Towards the south you start getting into more open country.

Montana and Wyoming elk are at much lower and less steep elevations than Idaho. Easier hunting, focus your efforts on those states.

Please????

Just kidding, I think you can find all the different types of terrains and elk in them in any of these states.
