Leupold DD ring torque specs

Leupold recommends 28 in-lbs on their 30mm scope tube rings. That seems way too high and tight to me. Should I trust it?

28 is the max that they recommend, not the spec you should torque to. They don't give a recommended spec to torque to. I would suggest 15-18 on 30mm rings. Clean the oil off the rings, screws and threads before assembly.
