Im actually glad you asked cause i thought these were smaller than the accurate mags i have but they are the same size as the 5 rd accurate mag i have. They both fit 4 rds of 6.5 prc and both weigh a little under 5 ozs. The accurate mag is slightly lighter at 4.76 vs 4.97 for the mdt. Gonna return the mdt i guess lol neither are as light as i would like. I will get an aluminum one when they become available again

Bumping this thread. Currently using a 10 round AICS mag in my Tikka. Looking for a lighter option. Using with mountain tactical bottom metal.

Thanks

How about the 5 round aics mags? The billet mags from terminus and Hawkins are great but need be ran in the Hawkins bottom metal or a chassis with no mag well. Ruger makes some 3 Rd aics mags for their scout rifles too.

So bringing this back again. I’ve been looking for a few years for a lighter WSM mag option with longer OAL for a XLR magnesium chassis. Called many of the manufacturers listed in this thread and their products are either specific for their BM or won’t fit in the chassis.

That said, I did somehow come across a company in Canada that makes some custom AICS mags. I ordered a 4 and 7 round. Gentleman says the 4 round is 3 oz (my accurate mag 3 round is 4.7oz) and allows an OAL of at least 2.95 (says it will fit more but wanted to advertise conservative #). I should have these in a week or so and if they work well I told him I would push them for him and/or get him looped in on the forum.

Not to be cryptic but I told him I would function check and validate before I pushed them on the forums.

I’m going to hold to that. If they suck I don’t want folks spending as much as I just did on shipping to have a paper weight. I’ll have them in a few days and will push it.

Fingers crossed they are awesome.

Look forward to hearing more. I still haven't bought a "lighter" one than the one I own.

Sorry it took a bit. They came in today.

I snagged the 4 round and 6 round WSM

Weights were 2.46oz for 4 and 3.08oz for 6.

For reference my Accurate mad 3 round is 4.54.

I believe I paid ~$30. But shipping from Canada was a bit pricey. Still much cheaper than anything close in US I’ve found and it’s the lightest.

Locks up nice in my XLR element. Follower is plastic and cycled all 6 rounds without issue. Did not shoot yet.

OAL is a tad smaller than I hoped at 2.93” but still longer than SAAMI for WSM. (My loads are all at 2.95” but will adjust as needed).

Link to product below. I don’t know owner.

Happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for the post. I was watching. I just ordered a mag for my 300 wsm in xlr chassis. Strangel, they only had one option, 5 round mag. But that works for me.

If I have any problems I’ll post about it.

Confirm you ordered a wsm aics 5 round from the company above?

I just checked and saw only 4 and 6. Wonder if the wires are crossed somewhere. Or maybe you are saying you used another company and im

Yeah, this is weird. Here’s a link to what I bought. Only 5 rounds option.

I got a curtis custom one, its definitely lighter but it fits in the xlr chassis magwell a bit loose up and down and only feeds reliably if i keep upward pressure on the bottom of the mag. Tried filing the inside of the feed lips a bit and it helped a little but its not feeding every round unless i cycle slowly. I need to either do more filing or figure out a way to keep it in the magwell tighter. I would try this new canadian one but i dont want to sacrifice cartridge OAL at all personally since i have a 6.5 prc. The curtis has an internal length of 2.9905" which is nice if i can get it to fees better lol

My review will basically mirror Tahoe’s. Just got mine in today. I only ordered the 4 round. It fits very tight with a firm lock in. No slop when you shake the gun. I cycled 8 rounds through it. No issues cycling.

Of course, I can’t attest to the durability. But the material appears thick and heavy duty. I haven’t weighed it but Tahoe covered that.

I’m pleased, in fact, I suggested Allen (owner) get in touch with XLR since a lot of folks seem to be looking for these.

I am not affiliated to the company and paid for the magazine. Here’s a link to the site:

Not uncommon with the zillions of AICS magazines, chassis and bottom metal combinations out there. Some chassis's have adjustable mag release setups for this issue. See if XLR has a longer mag release available that can be trimmed to fit. I've welded built/up the ends in the past on some bottom metal to fix this.
