I’m also inspired! I’ll start with a cheap chunk of maple and try a Rokstok clone of one of my old Swedish Mausers.

I highly recommend using iron nitrate (aqua Fortis) for the stain. Kiblers longrifles provides high quality iron nitrate.

That’s awesome Bruce!! What kind of wood are you going with?

If interested, a couple of books that helped me alot were Alvin Lindens “Restocking a rifle” and David Wesbrooks “professional stock making”. David’s book has sone good write ups on finishing techniques from a few other stock makers, both books are full of great info.

Feel free to message if you have any questions :)
I got a chunk of walnut from a local guy that builds furniture. For hilariously cheap I may add.

I’m sure I’ll have a pile of questions and do appreciate the help. I’m going to try and build something between a clymer and the Rokstock.

If it all works out it’ll go on my 7 SAUM with a carbon tube so it should look pretty sharp.

Did they post the measurements and drawing for the rokstock? Or did you just make a great approximation?

There are drawings posted which make a great starting point. My plan is to start with a 6 degree negative comb and iterate from there, removing material until it’s just right for me. Same with grip thickness, trigger reach, etc

Awesome job. I've done some woodworking and the patience that you must have to sneak up on the profile, depth, etc. Really impressive and great to see people still doing this.

Love it!
My mountain rifle also has walnut. Also made a "mountain rifle sling" to better/quickly hold the rifle against the body when I need both hands free.

I use a hole with a brass reinforcement + QR stopknot to quickly secure sling or rifle to backpack. I would probably used a Hasler QR pushbutton if new. But the sling works well, it's the skinny jeans of rifle carry - no bumping around across back/chest/squeezed to side.

@THLR looks snazzy. You’ll have to ship it all the way across the pond to @Decker9 for checkering!

What is the black thing in the head of your new stock? Is that something you fabricated or ?

That's just an action template to check fit and keep the wood in place.

You’ve done a fine job right here!! What would this rifle be?? I can’t say I recognize it.
I really like the colour and finish you got there on that stock, and the sling adapter, looks very tidy and neat too!!

I did a mess up on my stock here in my learning process. I drilled the hole in the butt stock for a sling stud, but then decided I didn’t want sling studs on this rifle, so didn’t drill the forend. Now all finished, the forend needs a stud lol, it looks terrible with one lonely hole. It’ll be tough getting it perfect now that the stock is shaped, but should be able to getter pretty straight I think.

Unfortunately Iv been so busy, I haven’t had any time to dive into checkering this stock yet, if I end up keeping this rifle, I think I will send it off for checkering before sheep season.

There is a fellow here in Canada who just started building a titanium CRF action and is building light weight mountain rifles off of it (4 1/2 lb rifles) im trying to fund one, but my bank account boss says I need to sell 1 first :( lol.

I did get a bunch new checkering spacers though, this coming winter sawdust will be flyin again :)

On another note, first range trip with the 7 saum last week (from my previous build thread), I’ll get all 10 in that 3/4” dot next time 😉

It's a Blaser K95 kipplauf, a breakopenbrifle with a jaeger lock. Basically just a barrel with a block. Very lightweight.

I didn't do anything but the oil finish on the final version. Blaser 3D scanned my stock and magicked up a new stock.

The template is from the factory

Taking a stab at my first stock too. Found a local walnut guy with tons of old blanks. Doing my dads post 64 model 70. Gona have it rebarreled to 6mmAI. Still working on the inletting. Going surprisingly easy. What a joy this dry claro is to work with.
