I hate my kenetreck hard scrabble boots. Would recommend looking at schemes, Lathrop and sons, or Solomon

You probably don't need a $300+ mountain boot if you're hunting in Texas and Missouri. Boot fit can be a very personal thing - have you tried on boots at any local sporting goods stores?

While at REI, try on some Lowa and vasque hiking boots. I have had good luck with both brands. Each make several different boots for different applications.

I'd give meindl a look their ultralight is very comfortable, I would think in those areas you won't want a very stiff shank. A boot good for side hilling isn't probably the most comfortable on stand all day and vise versa.
