What is your favorite non lead 308 for a short barrel. I am tempted by a 16inch sig cross at the my lgs. 1/10 twist. Use is deer to elk under 400 yards. I am interested in both factory and reloading recipes.

I prefer non lead so I don’t have to change loads for certain restrictive states.

I have a cross, I like the 165 gmx. Took a nice cow bison at 200 no problem. Also for the gmx the load data is the same a cup and core as far as I recollect.

What’s your overall impression of the Cross?

I like it, it is lightweight , accurate, and compact. I have shot 125's through 165's it does well with all of them. Easily shoots under moa at 100, 200. Have only had opportunity to stretch it out to 400 and it shot a 3.5 in. group with 150's handloaded. Mine likes Nosler 150's and winchester Powerpoint 150's I use for whitetails. I am sure it is capable of better accuracy then I can do with it. Trigger is good. I did send mine in for the recall? don't know what they did, but the adjustment on the trigger does'nt seem as fine as it was before I sent it in. Could just be me? It is everything I need to hunt with. I try to keep shots under 500.

151gr absolute hammer seems to get great speeds for a lot of guys.

My 30-06 load is 3230fps out of a 22” tikka (it’s hot, tough on brass but a hunting load)

Last year i shot a buck with an impact velocity at approx 2000fps. I would never trust a Barnes at that impact. I’ve had lackluster results around 2400fps impact with the 150gr ttsx.
