I second the bushnell. I have one and have used it to bang steel to 1000 and killed a cow elk yesterday at 550

If you can stretch the budget to land a Mark 5HD that would be awesome. But if not, the Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 or 3-15x50 would be a great option. Exposed elevation turret, lightweight, good glass for the price range. I personally think something in the 15-18 max magnification range is a good spot for a hunting rig that dabbles in longer range shooting.
