I have TAC in July in CO and will either be going to scout mule deer in CO after, or Elk in Wyoming. Such tough choices.

well I attempted to scout in ID this weekend and ran into way too much snow to get in. Another week and I should be able to get in.

Did some scouting this weekend. I found a few bucks in my home state, but nothing above average. This is definitely my favorite time of the year.

Came home from Salida-Denver Sunday and all of the high peaks were like that on the drive. Maybe a little more in the North Part of South Park.

I'll head out next weekend...have a 3rd rifle tag so gonna try to resit the urge to go glass up higher and focus more on what the unit looks like, access points, glassing spots, habitat, etc. I'll go back a lot closer to season to try to zero in better

Numbers overall are good but numbers of hunt-able bucks are down. Count is just over 130 bucks at this point and have not seen a buck w that wow factor.

Numbers for me used to be about 1 shooter buck for every 100 or so I look over and the past couple of years it had been closer to 1 in 150 or 1 in 200 and that trend is continuing..

As green up high and down low as it has been in a long time as we are getting regular rain..

What do you consider or look for in a shooter buck?

I am lucky with my proximity to both great genetics and terrain.. Or I guess I am like most hunters and looking for a buck that gives me the wow feeling.. To everyone it is different but for me it usually takes a 200”+ deer and I have not seen any of those this year.

Quite a few or numbers are better than the past few years in the 150-160” class..

Making the drive west to WY Saturday so I can spend a week getting an idea on access, terrain, possible camping spots, herd numbers, etc. Turning up what I consider shooters will be icing on the cake but since I won’t be back out til mid-October not too worried about where they are now. Just wanting to learn the units we’ve decided to hunt in the region and see how things compare to the job completion reports herd wise.

Is that because of the cwd management plan or is that not happened in your area? Wondering if those older bucks got shot out last few years.

Nothing gets me more excited than hairy horned bucks in the high country. I wish I had some pictures to cobtribute this summer. Fires are putting a damper on the scouting so far. Thanks for the pictures.

Not a real good picture I couldn't get my phone out fast enough when he was looking at me, but a good mature buck for the unit and hoping he hangs around for my muzzleloader hunt
Here's some town bucks that will never get hunted.

No time for me to scout this year. Gonna drive 20 hours, look at a mountain I’ve never seen before and wing it. Use the Utah archery tag to knock the rust off in August before I guide elk in September.

Love all the pictures. Hopefully I’ll find some velvet!
