A follow up of 168 BT, Varget, and elk..... They work! Compared it to a recovered 165 NP equal speeds.

Are both those pics of the 165 BT? What impact velocity did the bullet hit the elk at?

Anyone use the 178gr ELD-X?

I used to own an adirondak in 308, and that round was what I shot out of it. Currently using it in a kimber hunter. I’ve killed everything I’ve shot at with both guns and that bullet, but I’ll be switching to Barnes or Berger, whichever will win for accuracy. I’ve had too many recovered eldx bullets that turned into splinters, retained less than 50% weight, and required more than one or two shots to get the animal down quickly. It’s kind of a bummer because they really are very accurate bullets, and I’ve shot them for years. Used them on bears, elk, deer, antelope, mountain goat, lion.

HAHA yes sir!! Currently shooting a 168 grainer at just under 2800 fps with my wife's 16" barrel 308. Short and handy yet still plenty of oomph for the animals I shoot and the distances we shoot them.

What powder are you using?

168 BT and 165 NP. I’m guessing impact 2600-2700.
