I have no tags in this area, nor do I plan to hunt there anytime soon. Don't know if good or bad hunting and not endorsing any units around Gunnison. Simply, I am going backpacking in the West Elks over the fourth of July weekend and would like to know if anyone has any current knowledge of the snow level situation? Passable at 11,000 ft, maybe just a little at that level?

I called the forest service but it was sort of a rude experience and they had about zero current information except to say oh there's snow on the mountains. I asked about trails though and they just repeated that phrase like I wasn't on their level lol. Hence, I am looking to see if anyone has been out in that area recently.

Thanks!

search for SNOTEL
Two sites east of West Elk Mtn:
Butte site (10,200') was 0 snow pack at May 31
Schofield pass (10,653') was 0 snow pack last week.
West of West Elk Mtn
Mesa Lakes (10,168') was 0 snowpack at June 5
But, there're percentiles, and details like slope azimuth and trails crossing avalanche chutes.

That sentinel-hub is pretty slick.
