During my freshman year I loaded up 60-80 lbs and confidently headed up the mountain only to retreat in blisters and back-pain. Freshman year.

Well things have changed friends. You see, I drew a 1st rifle tag and loaded up 60-80 lbs to head up the same trail, but this time I let a horse have my gear and back-pain!

Lessons learned:
1. Deadfall can be used like a highway, but you'd better not fall.
2. Bulls are everywhere the day before the open.
3. I can now speak elk, but I only know how to say, "don't come closer" and "shut-up".
4. You should always pack Imodium, (and/or drink from the right end of the water filter.)
5. Mule deer are everywhere when you don't have a tag.
6. Big bulls can build a fort out of deadfall and mountain and then disappear like Keyser Soze.
7. We had the mountain too ourselves, no orange hats to be seen, and it was exhaustingly beautiful.
8. 3rd time is the charm...I'll be back

PS. PM me the name of these basins for a chance to be bombarded with questions.
