I have several .504 White Whitetails and shoot No Excuses and Bullshop lead conicals over Pyrodex P. I do not use wads but want to try some. I am looking for some recommendations on brands, materials, diameter, thickness, lubed or dry. Thanks!

There are more experienced people than me but this is what I have used behind no excuses. And it has worked extremely well. Get them oversized. I have a 50 cal and use .54 cal wads.

Guys use various types of wads with success. I’ve used veggie, poly, lubed felt, dry felt, MMP sub bases and a combination of veggie and felt. Generally slightly oversized with felt - ie .54 on a .50.

I’m currently using a felt/veggie combo in my White .504 and .451s. Just have to try some and see what works for you. Anything will likely be better than nothing but you have to experiment.

I cut my own out of some heavy felt I found. Unlubed, and tight in the bore. They definitely help.

I wish I had more material....because this seems to work well.

Thanks guys. Anyone use the .512 Hammer Type Wad Punches on the Buffalo Arms website? They don't have .54 caliber punches and I was wondering if the .50 cal which is actually .512 is big enough for a tight fit with wool felt.

I use a 12 mm (.472”) punch for .45 cal and a 13 mm (.5118”) for .50 cal.

Edit: .472

I use oversized wool wads with lead conicals. .54 size wool wads for 50 cal with bullshop 460’s. Work great.

The other thing to try with conicals in a .50 is the base off a 28 ga wad. Works well.
