Only our legal system could so complicate something where two people could be legally standing one foot from each other but they cannot legally move to the spot the other is standing.

Thanks for clarifying! I wish more landowners were as reasonable as the one you encountered, but it also sounds like you're a pretty reasonable guy. Seems prudent to have obliged with the warden in the long run.

We have a much better world when we work together, with mutual respect. The landowner was great, as was the warden.
