I have a few questions on this region now that the draw period is pretty much over on archery hunting this region. Not necossarily looking for spots more so wondering what hunting conditions are like early on, like how crowded it is mostly. I can’t find anything on bowhunting our here which is why I have some theories. Can anyone reply or Pm me if you have any experience in this region in September?

Are you planning on paying an outfitter??? Region C has horrible public access, Big bucks but the public is very hard to gain access to. I grew up there. Good luck

No I’m not gonna go with an outfitter, I might nick on some doors and find peoples names for future years but this year I’ll give it my best effort on public

Access is difficult but not impossible. Outfitters have big ranches tied up and they’re isn’t much trespass fee hunting left. Lots of signs saying “ No Hunting, Don’t Even Ask”. That said I’ll be there hunting goats and deer assuming I draw. I don’t think you’ll see many other bowhunters.

Access is tough like others stated. Not very good numbers of deer on the public IMO. We ran into bow hunters and when we found deer finally they cut us off. I was in a specific area so other areas may be better. The deer we did see weren’t very big. I ended up tagging a fairly good one but my buddies didn’t fare to well. I think there are better option. Plus C is no longer guaranteed with 0 points.

i used to really enjoy the limited access hunts over all and that powder river country is cool. Nowadays I’m starting to get a little bit pickier about the limited access areas illl Hunt because the crowds have gotten crazy. Now everyone knows where they can walk for half a mile into a 10 mile piece of BLM or can hopscotch along 1/2 section and section pieces etc so no one is fazed by the limited access, and the pressure that radiates from the few access points is a significant presence and factor even a few miles into “difficult” spots. You can still carve out your piece full your tags have a good time but you spend a lot more time running into other guys than you used to in all these narrow corridors between parcels etc. the glory days of those hunts is over. That asterisk on the wyfg webpage has become something that a lot of guys are looking for planning to exploit instead of a deterrent.

Like any other trend. The guys on the front end of it make out better than those that catch on later. Still a good time- but eastmans has blown up that C as a good low point pick and it immediately climbed to a 3 point tag. Add to that- the areas in that region get a lot of attention as second choice sure things for guys hunting prongs- the mainstream awareness of apps like onx etc has basically made what a was a specialists tag or an outfitters tag into an Everyman tag. For a hunter who will grind it out it’s an ok tag to get a representative 4 year old but
I think there are better antlered buck tags available with 0 points in the regular draw

That’s kind of my worry and the spots i
Like the most seem a little to obvious but I figure the only way to really know is go there and try it out and adjust from that, cause it seems pointless to builD points and not experience but maybe I’ll look else where to gain experience depending how this one goes

We hunted Region C outside of Buffalo. Mainly walk in areas. It was a general season tag with modern so not sure about archery. We always came back with bucks but nothing really big.

Well I got lucky (lucky is the word this year for sure) and drew a region c deer and a pronghorn tag. If anyone wants to swap e-scouting ideas/thoughts I’d love to set up a private group chat (not positive how to do that but we could figure it out). I’m a little tied to my lope tag unit so most effort will be focused on that.

My main question is how many guys have done a backpack hunt in that region? First thought is see how deep I can get and stay a day or two or just sleep in the truck or hotel each night. (Of course I’ll be flexible either way)

I drew in this area too. Happy to chat about e-scouting with you, although I know time is running out.

From talking to people out there it sounds like the orange army is out in full force so I’d go through and pick out as many spots as possible if your on public cause you’ll need plenty of back up spots

Also water was a big challenge to find to, I found some small pools of water but never found any flowing or large quantities so be aware of that if your going deep

Water everywhere here right now. Been raining for days and is still raining today. I start my hunt on the opener... deer and antelope, but I hunt private.

Yeah it was in the 90’s and super dry so that is why I had problems when I was there most likely

I lived in Gillette for a couple of seasons, I am from western Washington so my views on deer hunting are a lot different than most mule deer hunters, It’s been a few years since I’ve hunted region c (2011-2012 seasons) but when I was there it was pretty awesome. Hard to find much info, online wasn’t much help, locals weren’t much help, but not hard to find areas for yourself. Their was always plenty of bucks around, some pretty nice bucks also! Seemed like a ghost town hunting out there during archery season but rifle season was pretty nuts with people! But like most areas, about 80% or more of the people stay in their trucks or on the main roads.. I am curious how hunting has been recently, I would like to get back out there soon!
