Good luck and stay safe to all the the PA hunters tomorrow morning for the opening day of rifle season. I shot a buck during archery but I’ll be taking my 8 year old son out tomorrow with his .243.

First deer! We were able to fill his first PA buck tag this evening around 3:30pm. Definitely the biggest spike I’ve ever seen. I had him on camera back in October but haven’t seen him since. Perfect 75 yard shot with the .243 and 100gr core lokts. 617F6CB1-6956-42A6-B679-F294A652EB22.jpeg

My older daughter hunted for the 1st time in 9 years. Only had 1 day to hunt because she had to return to college. Got it done at 5:05pm. First time she had to sit a whole day. Her prior kills were all before 8:00 am. 243 with 80 gr Hornady gmx at 225 yards.

Shot this goofy guy yesterday. It’s my first whitetail since I’m new here to the east coast. His front leg was in bad shape on the opposite side of the spike. 72365814406__F0FBE978-5992-4D66-887D-CD53EAE79A6B.jpegIMG_4696.jpeg

Yeah that’s wild looking. Previously Hit by a car possibly? I’ve seen that a few times before. The racks always messed up opposite side of injuries

I can’t seem to attach a video I have of him from last month. I have a trail cam video of him hobbling around. The crazy thing is that he was chasing 3 doe around an island in a river. I was crossing when I saw him. They all stopped when they saw me. Took me a minute to make sure he was legal.

He also had zero fat on him and barely any meat on the shoulder of the bad leg. I’m not sure if the whitetail here get a fat layer on their back like the mule dear I hunt in MT and ID but he had zero fat !

By rifle season the bucks are usually pretty lean. I guess they burn a lot of fat off during the rut. This my sons buck skinned. Now if you shoot a big doe during rifle they usually have a pretty thick layer. I don’t have a pic of my buck skinned but I shot him Nov 3rd and he didn’t have much fat either 3DA9E7AA-38BE-4A36-AEAD-A41F3DED1491.jpeg
