I’m kicking around the idea of buying a stainless Tikka 22-250 with a 1:8 twist and having it rechambered to 22 Creedmoor. Anybody done this and regretted it or done it and love it still?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

I’ve been wanting a 22 Creedmoor for awhile. But, is it better to just leave it a 22-250?

My opinion would be unless you know a guy that will do the work for you cheap and quick you are going to spend a bunch of money for a slight gain. I have shot 22 250, 22 250ai and 22 creed. Unless I had money to burn I would either shoot the 22 250 till it was burnt out or buy a used tikka as cheap as I could with proper bolt and mags and rebarrel. Depending on what weight bullets you want to shoot the re chamber of a factory barrel may not work for you.

It would probably be fairly quick, but $300 for the work. 🙁

I shoot/shot a 22-250. I did just build a 22 Creed and the main reason was because of case shape. The 22-250 didn’t want to feed great from a 5 round mag sometimes. And a 10 round I had to leave 3 rounds out.

I still shoot the 22-250. After the barrel is gone I’ll have a 22 Creed chambered.

I bought a used tikka for 550 and waiting on a Mcgowen prefit which was 365 shipped on sale, might be another option if you’re cheap like me. The main reason for going creed was the availability of good brass.

I'm planning on rebarreling my 22-250 to a 22cm before too long. It has too slow of a twist to stabilize the heavy bullets I want to shoot and hunt with. Eventually it'll probably be in a chassis so I can easily adjust it fit my kids when they're old enough to hunt.

77tmks are doing great in my factory Tikka 22-250 barrel. Just received a box of Hornady 88eld to try out
I ran the 88’s through a calculator earlier today for where I like to hunt. I lost 10% of the BC with a 1-8 and the 88’s. Hopefully you live at a lot higher elevation.

I'd certainly send it to Shaen to have it rechambered, myself. I just much prefer the CM case and chamber.

A LOT of guys have had 88s blow up with a 7 twist Creedmoor. Usually as the throat gets a bit thrashed, and really pushing speeds with 26"+ barrels. I've heard of zero issues shooting them from a 8 twist. I suppose a 7.5 may be ideal.

Had no problem rechambering my 22-250ai to 22cm--- it is always easy to find 22-250 brass I just don't like fireforming and 22cm was plentiful at the time.

It shot 80 and 88 ELDMs with no issue.

I’m shooting a 22” 7 twist with no issues

Do we really care about maximizing bc as long as it shoots? We all tend to get caught up in a bunch of minutia that doesn’t really matter that much in the whole scheme of things. Those 88’s will still be carrying a lot of velocity way out there even with a 10% loss in bc and if your dialing the difference in drop won’t matter much.

If the 88 ELD m loses 10% of the bc, it might be better to shoot the 80 ELD m instead. Or a different bullet if someone isn’t stuck on ELD m’s.

I’ve never worried about drop. That’s simple.

Did you ever do this? I'm planning on doing the same with my Tikka.

I like the 22-250 for shooting 50-55 grain bullets at coyotes. If I want to shoot a heavier bullet then the 6mm comes out
