I need a little advise. I am going to load for a couple 7mm's. One Tikka and one Remington. I have IMR 4350, 4831 and 7828 on hand. I was going to start with 7828, but I could be persuaded....

I’ve had good results with H4831 pushing nosler BT and Bergers, now shooting federal TBT with RL 22. That is if I can find some more federals. Sorry never tried IMR.

I struggled with 7828 for a little bit. I got great accuracy but bad velocity until I went well above book max. I still have no pressure signs and am getting 2960 with 160 grain Sierra btsp with accuracy around 1/2 moa

If you want other powder options H1000 and IMR 7977 get thrown out a lot. Also R26 but I can't find any right now

I would look at Retumbo. It is my go to for the 7mm. However it is non existent anywhere so I tried 8133 and my first loads this week were more accurate than anything in the 7mm and 264. I have to chrono the loads and do more testing, but very promising so far.

I have seen a lot of Retumbo and H1000 suggested. I might just have to pick some up and see what happens.

Of the 3 mentioned I’ve had better luck with 7828 in a 24” tube with 160 class bullets. The other 2 powders seem to be slow in my rifle. There are newer powders than can be better in regards to speed and maybe temp stability as other have mentioned. However 7828 seems ok as I don’t shoot that rifle when it’s really hot outside.

Nosler's guide shows IMR 4350 as a top choice but after many years and too many different 7 RM's to count I have never gotten decent results - I also have found it to be erratic

I use IMR7977 with a near max load and 175gr ELD-X in my 7RM Tikka T3. Velocity is 2810fps@72F. NOTE: This bullet is only stable and achieving full BC in the Tikka due to high attitude. The load is very accurate and consistent out to 1000yds, 3-4“ groups at 600. However, the combination is more temperature sensitive that I would have guessed. 0.63fps/F testing the whole system at 5-100F.

IMR8133 produced near identical velocities and accuracy staying within published data. SD was noticeably lower.

I'm staying with 7977 because I have so much range time with the load. It wasn't worth switching to drop my SD from 10 to 5.

Edit: I tried a handful of faster powders, but velocity was not nearly as good.

I've used H1000 and RL-22 for years. H1000 gives good speed with great accuracy. I've gotten a little better velocity with Retumbo but never could get the same great one-hole accuracy.
My experience mirrors yours. H-1000 has been very easy to dial in a load with, while still getting good velocity. I quit with RL-22 and Retumbo because of how fast and easy I got there with H-1000.

I just finished up load developmanet on a 7mm Weatherby Magnum. Hardest gun I’ve ever had to get dialed in. I tried, rl25, rl33, and Retumbo with no good results at all. Finally got my hands on a few pounds of rl26 and mywork is done. I’m shooting 140 grain Nosler Accubonds over the rl26 at 3400 FPS. Iinitial grouping shows to be .37 moa. I need to load a few more up to verify the groupings and more extensively check the velocity, but I think this load will be the bees knees.

I loaded up some rounds in .3 gr increments of 7828. Accubonds were all over the place. The Partitions had a couple that grouped together. I will load some more up and see what they look like in a 5 shot group. There have been enough recommendations for Retumbo and H1000 I think I will try and find some . Has anyone had problems getting 160's to shoot?

I haven't had issues shooting 160s and that's all that has been down my tikkas pipe.

I tried about 5 factory loads and all we're 1.5 MOA or better. Most were right at 1 MOA. Federal deer thugs 160 shot one hole groups but I can't find it anymore and it was only $24 a box at Walmart.

I reload 160 grain Sierra BTSP with either 60.5 grains of 7828 that shoots .25 MOA or 64.5 grains that shoots 3/4 MOA if I want the velocity.

my remington 700 shot 150 grain TTSX really well with 7828. i now shoot 160 grain Accubond with RL22. i'm probably not capable of shooting this combination to its full potential...extremely accurate.

Max load of IMR4831 is hard to beat with 140’s and 150’s but, if you haven’t tried RL26 you should. 7828 is NOT temp stable but, that may not affect your situation.
