So who’s headed to the Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation Banquet this Saturday? After it being canceled last year, man I’m really looking forward to spending an evening out with a large gathering of like minded folks, It’s been a long time.

I really wanted to attend this year but other priorities took over. It's not cheap to get to Los Anchorage from where I'm at. Should be a good time though!

Can someone tell me what AKWSF does to keep sheep on the mountain throughout Alaska?
Over the past 3-4 years they've focused significant effort on Movi. (disease) research and legislation to have all imported domestic sheep and goats tested when entering Alaska. Movi strains have wiped out big horn herds in the lower 48. The goal is to keep out all Movi strains that aren't already here.

They've also been able to hand AK Fish and Game a couple sizeable checks to support their sheep studies. AKWSF was able to work with the state to ensure the money stays with Fish and Game instead of getting dumped into the state general fund, which is what happens to all the other money donated to state organizations.

I had a fantastic first time at this show. A little less tequila next time for sure though. No big wins, just 10 days worth of heathers choice food. My buddy won 800 bucks of Kuiu gear so he was pretty happy.

I never saw an auction list this year. Did they auction off CIRI access permits again? Anyone have the price if they did?

I decided to split my money to ABHA and RHAK this year. I'm still waiting for someone at WSF to explain how donations to APHA falls in the category of "Putting and keeping sheep on the mountains" before I become an active member again.

They auctioned of a DC827 tag (just the tag), and it went for $61,000! That’s right, three zeros after the 61. My guess is somebody got tired of waiting around trying to draw it.

Wow, that's a lot for a caribou tag, maybe they know something? a new WR bou running around there? Would be nice to have that much $$ to contribute to conservation :)

That was worth going Greg!!!

60K for that Caribou tag is nuts... and there had to be two people to take it that high, even crazier. Good for him though, and good money for F&G!

Also interested in how they are keeping sheep on the mountain... Maybe they could try something a bit more substantial....like lobbying for predator control, you know, from an airplane...
