I been once in 2017:

Opening morning I had them spot me at 300 yards but wanted to come down from that area so I ran over there and got my first one at 25 yards (they were spooking from road hunters - herd buck was right next to me looking back over his shoulder - could see his eye lashes). Later in the day I shot another one at 350 yards. Only had doe tags - had 2 additional bucks within 200 mid-morning and mid-day.

Next day I had 150, and 75 yard shot opps on bucks I couldn't shoot. Also had a bedded buck in a spot where a stalk and 100 yard shot would have been possible.

Just couldn't get a 3rd doe - lots of bucks around tho.

It really is location specific - some places look like mowed hills and golf courses - you aren't gonna get as close under those circumstances. Give some brush, tall grasses, gullies, etc. and you'll be surprised how close you can get.

Know your limits and don't take shots you aren't 100% sure you can make.

Had probably 5 shots from 50 - 300 yards last year, but didn't take any. Always on the wrong side of the fence! I would probably shoot 300 yards or less with my new 6.5, because I haven't had a chance to do ANY practice long range.

Hunted North-central Wyoming this year. Had several opportunities from 175-400 yards. Finally shot one at 331 on the third day hunting a new unit. Small amount of public land in our unit and high pressure so really had to pick a spot and wait more than trying to get in close on one

I have shot several in Montana and Wyoming ranging from 60-420 yards with a rifle. Early season getting within 250 yards is usually not very difficult. In Montana the middle of the season they get very jumpy and I have to rely heavily on waiting them out and using the terrain to my advantage.

*200 is about my max with a rifle. I really need to practice is all I can say

I really like to bowhunt antelope. I have taken 12 so far with archery tackle, with shots ranging from 29 yards to just over 70 yards, in all types of conditions -- bedded, ambush, etc. I don't have the patience for a blind so it has all been spot and stalk (of those 12 taken, botched stalks and misses are higher!)

Again, as others have stated, it is too variable to say "45 yards with a bow, 250 with a rifle"...I guess that is part of the appeal. You never know what will happen, when it will happen or how far away. I think the takeaway from all of the individual experiences is be well rounded and be as accurate as possible out to what you consider you maximum effective range. I have shot several with a rifle, but I am no long ranger; 300 is far enough for me! But, I have no issue with a 60 yard bow shot on a calm, broadside antelope.

This whole thread has been a learning experience for a guy from Florida that regularly takes whitetails at 15 to 75 yards in the cypress swamps and hardwood bottoms. I can shoot accurately to 200 yards, but never have to. I don't even have a range within driving distance that you can shoot past 200 yards here.

Last four years my group (rough memory) distance kills:
2016: 125, 125, 125 avg 125
2017: 100, 350, 75 avg 175
2018: 150, 100, 100 avg 133
2019: 410, 310, 325 avg 348

the 410 in 2019 was a fluke. The first shot was a hit broadside standing still at 210, but non lethal. We didn’t know, so he kept shooting til dead. Lethal shot was finally a long ways out and skewed our data. Still a year of some longer shots. Just coincidence the way it worked out.
Year one we had one we would’ve killed bedded at 425 not 125, but we weren’t sure of property boundaries and opted not to shoot. Maybe we would’ve missed. Who knows.

All together average is around 200 yards for the 12 animals taken in 4 years.

I've shot several over the years in WY. I'm fortunate to hunt some private land with irrigated fields....distance seems more like it's a function of terrain. In areas with some topography, I would expect you could get to 200 yds fairly regularly with a good stalk. In and around pancake flat, cut alfalfa fields, I'd say 200-400 is likely more of the typical distance. You can usually intercept coming or going from the ag fields, where the surrounding areas has some relief and you can use the terrain to your advantage.

1. Rifle, 260 Rem with 130 VLD, 235 yards, 1 shot
2. Rifle, 6.5 SAUM with 136 Scenar-L, 234 yards, 1 shot
3. Rifle, 6.5 SAUM with 130 VLD, 302 yards, 1 shot

going again this fall, good chance it will be the 6.5 SAUM but with 139 Scenar this time.
How do you like the scenars??

Around 50 or so Pronghorn killed in my presence either personally or with clients. Rifle average has been right around 250yds. Archery 50-60yds I would guess that is a mix of blinds and spot and stalk.

Anytime I’m hunting speed goats it seems like I have plenty of opportunity at around 150yds... actually feels like they usually are hanging out sort of snickering at that range.

Unfortunately I hunt with a bow :(

I agree with this. I always tell my bowhunting buddies that a rifle Pronghorn hunt would be easy as I can get to 100 yards without fail most of the time while bowhunting. It’s that late little bit where I usually get busted haha

I've only shot four. Two at about 160 yards, and two at around 250 yards. Used a 25-06 and a 30-06 for my antelope.

I've also missed one. Dang it.
