Looking at picking up a 20” .223 barrel at a discount for a build on an origin action that will be used for kids range work as well as some deer and predator hunting. The smallest contour available is a #4 Brux which I don’t have any experience with and was wondering if you’d consider it to heavy of a contour for hunting? Thanks.

I put a Brux #5 at 24” on a 280, I wanted a #3 but let the gunny talk me into the #5. I wish I’d have got a #3. It’s a tank. The #4 would be a bit better, but still on the heavy side I suspect. Cutting it to 20” will help, then flute the heck out of it, might work. I’d rather have a #2 or #3.

The Brux 4 is similar to a Bartlein 3. I have a Bart 3 on a 30 Nosler. It is a pretty heavy barrel and you might think about that if one of your expectations is to have your kids carry it around.

Thanks for the responses looks like I’ll pass up on the sale and shell out a little more money for a better contour
