I've got a 26" HCA Heavy Hunter on my Tikka currently. From what I understand, this is pretty much a sendero contour and weighs roughly 3lbs. I am wanting to drop to 20"/22" in a steel barrel. I'd like to keep the rifle weight roughly the same as it is now, which means I'm shooting for 3lbs on the new barrel as well. I'd also like to keep the contours close, that way my stock inletting doesn't look funky. I'm thinking about a Bartlein #13 or 3B with some serious fluting but not sure I can hit the target weight. Does anyone have experience to chime in with?

A 20" factory fluted Bartlien 3b will be very close to 3 pounds. Or a 22" fluted by Kampfeld Customs. He does a deep spiral that takes a good amount of weight off.

From Bartlein's website:

The #13 weighs 4.95# @ 27". Rough math for 20" 4.95/27*20 = 3.67#

The 3b weighs 4.2# @ 26" Rough math for 20" 4.2/26*20 = 3.23#

I guess the question is how much can I drop with heavy fluting? If I can get there with the #13 I'd rather do that.

@Ryan Avery thinking of you and your 30 Nosler +P 2.0 here. I believe you said in a thread you went from a Carbon Six to a #5 Benchmark and only gained 2oz?
