So for example. This is a TSA combination lock, I have two on my bow case for when I dont check a handgun. You can see the TSA Key hole and number.
When I do check a hand gun in my bow case i use regular brass locks that i only have the key for.

The Reason you WANT a TSA lock on non firearm luggage is because they will just cut the lock if they dont have a key

I flew on Friday from Atlanta to Denver, with a pistol in my bow case and 6 non-TSA locks. When I landed there were only 3 locked. My best guess is that someone wanted to look inside, started cutting locks, then realized it had been cleared as a firearm ase by TSA (I watched them do it).

What happens if you don’t use a TSA lock? They announce your name over the loud speaker and hopefully you have time to go find them and open it before missing your flight?
I’ve only ever used TSA approved locks but I’d be interested to hear the process if you don’t use them.
In Phoenix sky Harbor they actually take you to a different room when you check a firearm and clear your gun before it gets out of your sight, but most places I’ve been that’s not the norm.

A lot of places in the US Bows and Guns are treated differently. The same was true when we traveled internationally. A bow was not treated as a firearm. Firearms go through a specific procedure. Likely not an issue if both the bow and firearm need to got through the firearm check procedure. I would call the airline ahead of time and ask for a luggage specialist.

And for anyone who is flying with an SKB case, what non-TSA locks are you using - and how many? I *think* I can get away with only 2, but the TSA determination as to whether someone can pry open a big case has me thinking I should use 3 or 4, and perhaps will require a longer shackles.

Take zip ties with you. Throw 4 on after they inspect the case. They let me dad do it every time we fly with our bows.

This probably doesn't help, but at each airport in my last 4 flights with a pistol in my bow case, I asked (very politely - "may I ask you a question sir/mam?") - how many locks do I need on this case? Each time the answer was "well, you can probably get away with just two, but the TSA website says it 'has to be secure' and some of us TSA agents want to see a lock on every lockable point, so you should have six with you." Then they let me use 3 or didn't opine and I used six.
