Whos had them and what are your opinions? Looking at the 2 with a full nest or the 4 with a half nest. Usually be by myself but sometimes(and probably more in the future) 1 or 2 mini me.

I suggest The Ultamid 4. Not that much more weight penalty and it is a palace for one and very comfortable for two. Only downside is large footprint to set up.

NO experience with the 4, but I've been using the 2 for a couple seasons without a nest. I bought the 2 over the 4 for the smaller footprint for pitching in tight spots. Looking back I should have just bought the 4 for the extra room. The 2 man is just big enough for 2 guys and packs. Also if your not in a hurry to purchase, HMG does a 15 or 20% off sale a few times a year.

I want a 4 so bad and all these threads are not helping my wallet!

What are your thoughts with regards to the footprint coupled with a goat or sheep hunt and the often times ridiculous places one might find themselves needing to set it up?

I took mine on a sheep hunt last year and plan to take it on as many as I can in the future. I had a similar concern, but the footprint isn't really that much bigger than other options. You might have to be a little more mindful of keeping your eye out for good spots to pitch it, but I doubt it would be an issue on most hunts. The roominess of the 4 far outweighs that minor concern for me.

I’ve been using mine exclusively for my mountain hunts the last couple years now, and will be using it this year as well. So far I haven’t had any issues with finding a big enough flat spot to pitch it, although sometimes I’ve had to spend a little time looking for that spot. There’s a used one FS on backpackinglight right for around $400, but like what’s already been stated, every year around Thanksgiving HMG has a 20% off sale.

I don’t own any hmg mids but have MLD duo and supermids which are comparable but slightly smaller than the ultamid 2 and 4. Go 2 for a solo shelter, 4 if you want multiple people in it.

I will say, I weathered some rain/hail in my stratospire 2 this weekend and was surprised at how much I appreciated the head room and inner after using floorless mids the last few times out..

Bit the bullet and ordered it along with mesh insert, the rota luco carbon pole and some stakes. 3.1lbs total weight for an 85 sq ft 4 man tent is insane...

We are trying to keep our total gear weight for moose hunt under 50lbs so that we can eliminate an extra flight in each fall, this should help out considerably. It'll also be welcomed on sheep/goat hunts this fall.

Thanks to everyone for the information, it's appreciated.

Just an FYI for anyone else looking for HMG, you can get 20% off entire order at backcountry.com right now. I just got the tarp for about 280 bucks. Code is good for entire order.

Dredging up this thread...currently looking at picking one up. Any reason, aside from aesthetics, to go with one color or the other?

Aesthetics for myself. The white CF is less expensive than the spruce color for some reason. Sending you a pm...
