I just put together an article about my Tikka build and someone reminded me about this thread. I've been upgrading this rifle over the past few years...

tikka-08.jpg

30-06, Mesa Precision Altitude Stock, Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44, Redsnake AICS Bottom Metal, LRI Bolt Fluting, Lumley Ti/Carbon Bolt Handle

Been shooting the factory barrel for a few years and have had it on plenty of hunts. When it came time to adding a suppressor (Thunderbeast Ultra 7 in jail), I did the barrel swap with a Proof Pre-Fit, instead of cutting down the factory barrel to get enough "meat" for proper threading. Still sub-100 rounds with the Proof, but during break in with crappy box ammo it is shooting lights out.

The article (link above) has more details if you're interested.

The Tikka long action magazine is 3.38" long. So unless you're planning on going with an aftermarlet dbm w/ aics mags, that'll be all you can run. A 180 Berger will be stuffed way down in the case. I'd spend the money to get your bolt face opened($120) and run the saum case on your current setup. An aftermarket magazine from hells canyon armory is specifically designed to run saum/wsm cases loaded long. It'd be the far better mousetrap, will require a little more money, but you'd be taking full advantage of the Tikka action and 7mm case.

There is always a 284 Win as well. similar case capacity to a 280 rem and the Tikka action will let you seat bullets way out there.

As of today I'm 12 weeks in to an 8-12 week wait for a Proof prefit stainless 300wm barrel. 😟

Even less capacity, smaller case head to lose primers, luckily peterson makes good brass, they'll soon be making 280ai I believe as well. I'll take a 150-200 freebore saum over anything else. I did love the 7mm LRM concept from gunwerks, but junk brass made it no better than saum or rem mag. Supposedly adg will be making brass for it very soon.

Not very custom but I’m bored so figured I’d throw this on here, T3X 7mm Rem Mag. Factory except for a vertical grip, limbsaver, and a sponge paint job. Waiting on rings to show up and it will be getting topped off with a 6x SWFA. Short term it will be getting something different for the bolt handle, new bottom metal, and a Matthews Fabrication Cheek riser. Long term it will be getting rebarreled to a 7 SAUM and dropped in something a little fancier for a stock.

-1.5lb trigger spring
-Talley lightweights
-maven rs2 scope

Comes in at 7 lbs 5 oz with scope attached

I used the Rustoleum Camo paint. It has worked well on other stocks I’ve painted and has held up well. It’s 4 colors. I started with an army green base and then sponged on black, earth brown, army green and desert sand in that order. Then a couple coats of clear.

Looks good and that is a really great job on the bedding. How are you liking that Maven so far? I have been considering one but haven't heard much feedback.

Thanks! I absolutely love the maven. It's Crystal clear, holds its zero, and tracks perfectly from what I can tell. The only thing I don't love about it is that it has a slightly shorter eye relief than some of the other scopes in its category. But to me, that is extremely minor compared to its other qualities. I also have a pair of Maven B2 binoculars that I absolutely love. And that company's customer service is top-notch.! I lost the tripod mount screw cap that's on the hinge of the binos and they sent me another one for free within a couple days of contacting them.

I'll be buying BRS 1 scope as soon as I have the money for another rifle to put it on.

Tikka is mostly done for now.
7mm Rem Mag
Carbon Six prefit, Sendero contour, 24”
Ti 4-port 2-piece brake from Muzzle Brakes and More
Hawkins Tikka Hybrids, low. Front drilled for a recoil pin.
Mesa Altitude. Added QD sling sockets right side. Made adjustable LOP spacers and a Limbsaver pad for my orangutan arms. Epoxy bedded the front and rear of the action.
Factory Tikka mags and bottom plastic.
Tactical Works CF/Ti bolt handle
Gen 2 PST 3-15. Not what I ultimately want on this rifle, but it’s what I have and thanks to Covid that’s what it’s going to be wearing for the foreseeable future.

Doing the LOP spacers made a big difference in how the gun handles and acts during recoil. No regrets chopping the Mesa stock up.

I am my own not-a-gunsmith and I don’t think I hacked anything up too bad.

Nice build! Nothing wrong with that scope. Those gen 2's are proving to be pretty damn good.
