I have a Ingram on order, it’s the #1 bird & trout, but adding a 1/2” to the length, SV30 steel- still debating between 1/8 and 3/32”, orange G10 handles
I put my order in 3 weeks ago. Looking at the #4 Bird & Trout (3/32) still debating on D2 vs SV30 and using the wood scales I posted above for my handle. How much was it to add a 1/2"? Was that to the blade or the handle?

My BIL has been making knives for several years and has got really good and beginning to be pretty popular in our area. Here are a couple pics, not the best pics but all I had. Everything is 100% handmade.

The only thing I would change on my knife, and its a bit bigger than the B&T, is that I would have done 3/32 over 1/8. I just don't see any downside to a thinner stock, providing Im only using it for butchering and cooking.

yeah the only difference between the 1 and 4, is the 4 has the little scallop for your front finger

1/2” to the blade, not sure if there is an additional cost???

I’ve owned a couple of knives in SV30 (several in D2 as well), edge retention is pretty darn good.

yeah I’m definitely leaning 3/32”, this is going to be used almost exclusively for breaking down elk, thinner (but not too thin) is usually better for boning- also the reason I want to add a 1/2”

There are not many that compare to chops knives, his Damascus ( and any of them really) are spectacular. Can’t get pictures to post for what ever reason.

I would assume adding length would be a hair more expensive but if not, I may do the same thing.

What are the other differences in the #s for the B&T model?

I think I am sticking with the 3/32" for the reasons mentioned above.

^ I asked Gene what differences there were between the 1 and 4, and only the presence of the choir in the #4; if he has other B&T numbers I'm not sure what the differences are

I ordered ahead of you, so I'll let you know if there is additional charge- my guess is if there is, won't be much

I figure if I want to pass it on to my kids (or grandkids) better go orange so I don't lose it :D
Understandable, I usually take care of my stuff and am not a guy who loses things so not too worried.

I'd probably be more worried about someone stealing it tbh.

as a game warden I was using my knife (knives) daily, after losing a really nice knife- my work knives became a lot less nice :)

I had a young warden at a major check station that left a knife on the back of a hunters bumper, I told him not to sweat it too much that we've all done it and asked if he had a spare. He did and went back to work, 15 minutes later he came back and said he left another knife on a bumper and asked me if I had a spare- "darn it, I sure don't" :D

Also picked up some spalted maple scales and some resin ironwood too. I can see how woodworking and knifemaking can get addicting!

My set of custom knives made by Daniel Stuckey from Springfield OR. Have owned them for about 10 years and cut up a lot of animals. Only custom ones I have, but looking at this thread is giving me the itch again.

Larger one is the Oregon hunter, smaller one is his BT version. Both in SV30
