Awesome story and photos, thanks for sharing those! I might have to get out and socially distance myself here soon on the skis or snowshoes as well. My CWM hasn't been used much lately and needs to see some snow.

They’re great bags, I wish I would have slept on more than my Neoair though. That left something to be desired.

Awesome! April is a good time to be up there. You’ve probably said it before but what length barrel and caliber are you running there?

It’s a 20” barrel in 7-08 from MGM. We built two identical rifles and they’ve been killers so far.

Yeah, a straight up NeoAir would be chilly it seems. I always like a Ridgerest pad under my air pads on cold grounds, helps a lot. See or hear any wolves on your trip?

Saw a few lone sets of tracks but no volume. There’s a valley guy that HAMMERS that specific area each spring.

Where’s the fun in a close caribou?

It's relative I guess.... :)

I thought we drug ours back from plenty far off the road last spring, but you took the trek to another level! We will have to compare gear notes at some point. Not a lot of how-to articles out there for that kind of thing.

There’s very little other than a few blogs and the Winter Classic reports.

Bear bait is in. New spot this year so I’m excited to see the bears and learn their demeanor.

With the kind of bears you are likely trying to get in, my hide would be high up a pretty stout tree 😀
We’ll likely have grizz and a few black bears. The grizz where we’ve been baiting in the past are pretty leery of humans. There’s a decent channel of water between the barrel and our hide. Should be alright...should be!

There would have to be a good sized school of piranhas in that channel of water to comfort me. Otherwise, my back condition (an approximately 6” wide yellow streak) would keep me about 15 feet up a tree.

I look forward to your stories and photos chronicling the remainder of 2020. Good luck!

We couldn’t get a good look but knew there was a bear bedded down. The bear wouldn’t stand up for us. Turned into a super long wait and something just didn’t feel right so we moved in for a closer look.

Long enough wait we started a fire.

Turned out the little fella had been attacked by a much bigger bear and only had front wheel drive from having a broken back.

Aubrey didn’t want to see him suffer any longer so she punched him from the canoe to end it.

Proud of her for making the right decision and not holding out for the bigger bear. Also sorry for the edited pic but it’s 2020 and people be creepin.

Is there something different with that fur? Just matted? Looks cool!

It’s long and a little wet so it definitely makes it look different in the pics. When it’s dried it fluffs up like a little fuzz ball. Beautiful colors, would’ve been a gorgeous bear in a few years.

Rolled out to the stand on Friday night. Took the canoe across the lake and found a bear munching away. It was looking like the perfect quartering away ambush until the bear got up and readjusted quartering towards me. It kept looking up at the weird log floating towards it. When I drew back it stood up on its hind legs facing me. At 50 yards I sent an arrow from the canoe. I heard the bear run for only a couple seconds and then silence. It was one of the easiest blood trails I’ve ever followed. An Ironwill V125 put in the right spot had the bear down in 40 yards.
