Kelbly Atlas Tactical, Manners EH1, Brux #3 contour at 25" plus Vias brake, HS Precision DBM, Triggertech set at 2 lbs, Leopold VX5 HD 3-15 Impact-29. 300WM pushing 210 HVLD with H1000 at 2850fps.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to shoot anything other than steel with it but im expecting it to hammer.

Tikka T3x Superlite in 300 win mag
Limbsaver recoil pad (adds some ounces but a necessity)
Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x50
Barnes TTSX in 180 grain

Wrestled with what rifle to buy last year but at the end of the day I couldn't say no to the Tikka. Incredible trifecta of accuracy, weight and price. If I hit the lotto I'm not sure I'd do it any differently.

Elmer Keith was born in 1899 and tried .30 and .35 based on the '06 case before settling on .333 which at that time meant Kynoch bullets because .33 win were too fragile. The Kynochs weren't great either, a fault that was pretty much the standard for technology of his time. As soon as the .338 win mag came out, he wrote that his .333OKH should adapt to that better caliber and be a .338 OKH. If you care to read his book "Hell, I was There" and numerous columns in Guns & Ammo, you can see the history behind the great .338-06. He also pioneered the .338 win mag with the .333 OKH belted and .334 OKH on the shortened and full length H&H case.

Improved technology has really helped the smaller calibers. Not so long ago, there was a relatively poor selection of 6.5 mm stuff mostly with mediocre ballistic coefficients (BC). The best coefficients in hunting stuff seemed to be 7mm and .338. The .338 is a great caliber and has also benefitted from improved technology. You can get the job done with smaller stuff, or with the lower sectional densities of .35 stuff in the same weights. However, the .33 remains a great combination of weight, sectional density, BC.

I think your 7mm rem mag with 175 grain slugs would be absolutely deadly on elk. Buy another rifle if you want, but your current rifle would do just fine. I wouldn't feel undergunned in the slightest with your current rig.

Agree 100%. If I could find a stainless tikka 325 wsm last year, that what I would have bought

Remington 700 CDL 30-06 - Timney Trigger at 3LBS - VX2 3-9x40 w/ Talley LW

Feels great in the field and she is a tack driver. It knocks them Elk right over.

Timber hunting would be my Marlin .35 or 444 with the irons.

I'm debating on building a 280 AI, but it may be a waste of $$$ since I got a '06 and a 300 Winnie.
