Need advice- Favorite insulated rubber boots (tall)

I have been moose hunting on the Muddy River near Denali (mt. McKinley) lots of bogs. I got a 61 IN. Moose. The Cabela's hunter's jeans worked well for me. My brother used some cheaper hip waders. He got a little overheated, but the kept him dry. The Hinter's jeans werw expensive, but...

    Boot system for Alaska

Depends on how boggy it is. I used Cabela's Hunter's jeans (goretex waders with hiking boot boot) on my Alaska moose hunt. They kept me warm and I didn't overheat at Lake Minchumina. If water isn't a problem, then your plan might work. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Stream crossings? Gaiters or "crocs"

You might like Cabela's Millennium Hunting Wader Jeans. They have actual trail boots with good traction. I used them on an Alaskan moose hunt and they keptnme dry and comfortable in all the swampy areas as well as in the lakes/ponds. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Fish oil?

I take seal oil because it contains DPA, something fish oils don't have. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

Best Baseball style hat for hunting

I wear a sealskin baseball cap with natural camo (from the fur pattern). Breathes well. If I don't wear that, I wear my Marine Corps pith helmet, great for rain or sun and breathes well, although not a baseball cap. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Cold weather options

You might think of an insulated sleeping pad as well if you don't already have one. Other option is to look at military surplus bag, a little heavy, but cheap and warm. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Tent footprint for inside tipi?

I just use the free lumber wraps from Home Depot. The lumber is covered with the woven plastic, it is lightweight and has a white side or black side. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Pack Help??

I used the USMC Pack on my hunt, however, my brother and I ended up quartering the moose with a chain saw and cut handles in the hide to carry/drag. The 61 in. moose was too large to really put on my frame. I don't know what you have or are looking for, but if on a budget, I say get a USMC...

    Trail runners

I use Lasportiva GTX on soft trails. The problem I have using them is when I come accross large gravel or rockslides that I didn't plan on encountering. The softer sole doesn't protect well from the sharp edges. If I am sure of encountering such terrain, I wear my USMC RAT boots, the soles...

    My USA gear list

Most of my gear is U.S. surplus, thus technically made in the U.S. if you consider Peurto Rico U.S. The rest is Kifaru, Mountain People Gear or Mystery Ranch. I currently only prefer Swedish axes and hatchets (3 total) and I have a decent amount of Swiss stuff to match my Swiss Military bike...

    Water bladder mods...

You could probably get the USMC Pack (FILBE) hydration pouch to work. It holds a 3L bladder. I have mine mounted on then side because I don't like putting it in the radio/bladder pouch inside. I have also been using Vapur water bottles distributed around the pack using their built in...

Hot as F**k shirt for hike in and pack out

I like the REI Sahara long sleeve shirts. Gives UV protection, dries quick and wicks away sweat. Light weight. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Best place to buy webbing.....

My Home Depot carries it. Sold by the foot and cut (heat knife melted) to custom lengths. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Removing stink from boots

You might try concrobium. It has been safe on my shoes/boots and is non-toxic. They used to sell a FDA approved spray for sneakers that would do that, however the name escapes me at the moment. It used to be sold at The Athlete's Foot when I used to manage stores for them. Sent from my...

Getting my bike cycle hunting ready.

I will definitely post up on it, however it will be a while. No urgent need and lack of expendable income at the moment delays it as well. From reviews, they appear to be a solid option. One other thing I was looking to check out was the Rambo bike/hand cart. Made for Rambo bikes, but...

    Backcountry bulk water container

You might look at the Swiss Army Water Bag (20L). Pretty heavy duty and priced around $20 on a major online retailer that delivers in 2 days or less and probably from surplus dealers. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

    Best Value Rain Gear?

I say go on eBay and get Marpat gore-tex trousers and top (has pitzips, is quiet and durable). You can getnanset for $80+ dollars depending on sizing and if it's desert or woodland. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

Synthetic quilt options (on the shelf only)

Thanks for that, it is still $100 more than what I have. I will just deal with the military surplus weight and bulk for the time being. I can stuff it in a fanny pack or put it in my grab-it. I am not a weight-weenie, but I am getting older! I can't hump around as much as I did in the...

Power sources in the Back Country

The biolite EolarPanel 5+ looks promising. I like the 2200 mA battery reserve and the fact that it is rigid. I just can't fork out $80 for something that I don't require Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
