I went down the Tikka rabbit hole after being a life long Sako user and haven’t looked back. I now have 4 semi custom Tikkas that are all basically identical and all perform fantastic.

.Top is a Superlite in .22-250
.Next is a Superlite in .260
.3rd is a Superlite in 7mm Mag
.4th is a Battue in 30-06

All the rifles have McMillan Hunters Edge Stocks, High Desert Bottom Metal, Mountain Tactical Magazine, and YoDave trigger springs. Meopta MeoPro scopes all around with Talley lightweight rings.

I love every single one of these rifles and each serve their intended purpose. The scoped rifles are all between 7 lbs 6 ounces and 7 lbs 11 ounces with full mags ready to hunt.

The open sight 20” barrel 30-06 might be my favorite. It’s 5lbs 13 ounces ready to hunt with 4 rounds.

Too much fun!

I chambered the 65CM barrel and whacked it to 16.5” to basically compare FPS to the 28” barrel. I plan to eventually cut the long barrel back to 24” and machine some flutes. After that, I’ll get the metal dark tungsten cerakoted.
BTW,72 grains of H1000 slings a 135 grain Berger Classic Hunter around 3275 FPS.

There's a lot of talk about the t3x not allowing the OAL for certain bullets. Does anyone know if you can load the 168 ttsx in a 300 win mag without going aftermarket mags?

Yes.

Problem is with long slippery bullets. 212/215/225 etc. loaded to the lands.

If you were to buy a stock and use the factory barrel, would the same stock work with a proof carbon prefit? Or would you have to have a different stock for the new barrel? Just wondering if you could do a build like that a piece at a time. The stock I have in mind is the mesa?

Order the mesa in the varmint contour and you will be good for the proof in the future. May look a little funky with the pencil barrel in it for a while but would work fine.

You would want to do the barrel and then the stock. You won’t be able to inlet the carbon stock. I built this gun piece by piece. I inserted the original stock to fit the carbon six sendero contour barrel. Just needs the stock I want now but I’m having a hard time convincing myself. It shoots half MOA and filled numerous tags out to 600 yards this year the way it is.

That's pretty much exactly what I want. Did you paint the stock?
Thanks

6.5 CM Roughtech 24" (D18) barrel
McMillan Adj Game Scout (sporter fill)
Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44mm
Seekins low rings
Mountain Tactical bottom metal and 10 MOA rail
APA Gen 3 Little Bastard brake
Atlas BT10 V8 bipod
10.25 lb w/out bipod
11 lb w/ bipod
Shoots great, especially likes the 140 ELDM. I'm working on another one that will be similar but lighter. It'll be a 20" .308 and should be around 7.5 lb.

Edit: Updated pics on p. 78.

I’ve got a T3 Lite that I want to put a new barrel on and I’d prefer to open up the factory stock rather than buy something new. Any advice other than go slow?

Use a dremel to get the big work done and then go a little at a time with a piece of dowel and heavy grit sand paper. Make sure to do a little and then drop the barrel in over and over again until it fits. Then once it’ll drop in use a fine grit to float the barrel and finish the stock.

Very nice! What's the finished weight w/out bipod?

8.9 pounds. It’s right in that sweet spot of not being overly heavy but, being practical for long range. I’ve considered going to a Leupold VX5 and one piece Hawkins rings/base. That would cut out about one pound.
