Got my first confirmed kill with the rifle. It's also my first kill with one of my own hand-loads, even though my brother killed a 7'3" squared black bear with a 300gr accubond out of a 338-378 moving at 2700fps, that I loaded for him. One shot through both lungs at 170 yards dropped the bruiser like a sack of (Yukon Gold) potatoes.

I popped my black bear with a head-shot from about 50 yards with a 230gr ELD-X travelling 2760fps at the muzzle. The bullet entered the eye and exited out the throat, completely blowing open one half of it. It was a very interesting bullet path with a gruesome and (obviously) deadly result.

I'm very happy with the weight and "handiness" of the rifle. Even though I was nervous using such an expensive rifle on a black bear hunt out of a raft surrounded by saltwater, it worked excellently.

Just reworked my load a little with some nice shot brass; pushed out the shoulder a bit and added some powder. Got .7moa out of a 230gr ELD-X and achieved 2815fps. That’s beating the factory hornady ammo for a .338WM out of a 24” barrel by 5fps.
