Update:

Got ANOTHER hole in the same tire while out hunting. This time on top of the tread, which really pi$$ed me off. I am not happy with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Plugged it with 2 plugs and went on our way.

Took the tire to Discount Tire where I bought the tires today. They said they cannot permanently fix my tire because I plugged it, it's still leaking, and they would sell me a new tire at a "discounted rate" at $250. I told them to pound sand and took it to a locally owned shop to look at it.

Told them the story and he checked the plugs and rest of the tire for leaks in front of me. No leaks! Plugs are holding up fine! WTF? He said keep an eye on the plugs, but they should hold and last the tire.

Will NOT be going back to Discount Tire ever again. Very disappointed that they lied to sell me a tire. They lost a lot of business with me having 3 cars, a boat trailer, a double axle 5th wheel, and a utility trailer.
I guess I’ll have to eat some crow for recommending you go there. What they said does not make sense. Did they at least dismount your tire and dunk it to check for leaks? If they said something like the holes were too big to plug and patch, that would make sense. But the mere fact you had to plug it does not make it irreparable — unless you really went to town with the reamer.

But also… a tire shop saying a hole that took two plugs to fill and not recommending an internal patch is a bit odd.

My brother and I went on a pig hunt in Texas one year. He got a flat. We were locked on the King Ranch and had to be escorted everywhere so we just used a sheet metal screw and coated it with (arrow) hot melt glue and screwed it into the hole in the tire.

That tire went for three years until it was wore out! Never leaked.

How important is the rubber cement sometimes included in plug kits?

The kit I have now came with it and I use it.

I'm shopping for more kits, specifically those with bags and pliers. I noticed that most do not come with rubber cement.

The glue doesnt matter

Been using an old arb plug kit for a while now. Getting tools that can handle getting hit by a hammer or rock/log/bottle is important IMO sometimes they take a thump to get in there, and the cheapo's like to bend

I like to have them patched/fixed, gives me more confidence. We just went through this recently with my son's truck. Discount wouldn't touch it because we plugged it, so he took it to the hole in the wall tire shop and they re-plugged & patched it for $20 without asking any questions.

Was in south Florida, had tires from Discount tire with road hazard warranty. Got a 16 penny nail about one inch from sidewall, stopped at 2 shops, neither would repair. Finished my trip to Key West where there are no tire shops and plugged the tire myself. Called Discount tire and they shipped me a tire to Key West. Put it in the bed and drove back to Texas, drove another 6 thousand miles and returned to Discount tire for rotation, manager said tire had to be replaced as plug would allow moisture in and cause belt failure from rust. Installed the new tire under the warranty. Two years later, got another nail in a different tire, back to Discount tire, repaired the tire with a plug and patch inside the tire. Asked different manager about rust and tire failure, said not a problem.
