Alright guys I have one of the most important decisions of my life to make,🤔which fieldcraft to keep and which one the sell? Lol
So here's the Dilemma, I already have a field craft in a 6.5 Creedmoor threaded which I'm going to use a suppressor on, I'm not sure if the 6-5 Creedmoor is good enough for a one-and-done caliber for North America game ( probably won't bear hunt) but I have a 30-06 and a 270. So which one should I sell and which one keep, and please don't tell me all of them, cause it's a struggle already thinking about it😂😂😂😂
If I'm hunting mostly for just deer size game and possibly elk in the future do you think the 6.5 Creedmoor it is sufficient. Any information is appreciated

I’d keep the 30-06. Absolutely nothing against .270. Great round for everything you listed, but I feel like it’s close enough to the 6.5 that you aren’t gaining a ton. Keep the .30 for when you want some more punch than the 6.5

(edit bc I skipped part of the question).
The creed would be fine for a 1 and done rifle if you’re just planning on the occasional elk hunt. This is just me but I have total confidence In my 30-06 for any angle on an elk. It may be fine, but I don’t have that same confidence in the 6.5.

Flip a coin, there is so very little difference in my opinion. Pros and cons are so personal...

Inside 500 yards, the 6.5 can do it all with factory and it could be handloaded for further.

I haven't shot the fieldcraft 30-06 yet, but planning on doing that this comming week.
I've shot deer with both the 270 and 30-06 cartridge, both killed them quickly, but definitely better blood trails with the 30-06
Maybe if the 6.5 is gonna have similar results in deer size game as the 270, then probably should keep the 30-06.
Keep the advice comming guy
Thanks

As a 308 guy have to vote for the '06. Speed and BC are cool, But, mass and diameter sure seem to make their point.

Well in my mind, the Fieldcraft is the quintessential sheep rifle, so it only makes sense to keep the .270 Win.

The last 2 posts before mine are why id keep both, I'm a big 30 caliber fan but the fieldcraft is an excellent sheep rifle so the 270 makes a lot of sense too.

If I had to keep only one, I'd keep the 30-06, with all the guns I have, I find myself using a 30-06 more than anything else I have including 6.5, 270, etc.

I have shot almost all my deer with a 25.06. For the longest time I was concerned about blood trail so I bought a 300 wsm. The funny thing with the .25 there was no opportunity for a blood trail as they were dying in their first few steps. The 300 made no difference as they again died within a few steps.

My vote is to keep the 30.06, how can you beat it for versatility?

I have the 30-06. It's a great rifle. With 180 grain handloads it jumps pretty good due too it's weight but nothing too bad. I think that rifle in a 270 is probably a perfect package for backcountry in the lower 48. That said I sure like my 06!

For me it would depend on your distance of shooting. I've never had an '06, but I have heard it packs a good punch. Probably better than the .270. A do all of the 3 for North America? Which of the 3 would you want against a charging grizz?

Big 270 fan here. There is really no right answer. My favorite to shoot is the 6.5. With good bullets its a killer. My 270 is more accurate though and the 30-06 has the most recoil so I shoot it the least. The 6.5 and 270 have some overlap, so I would probably say keep the 06.

I don’t like recoil. I had a 308 FC and traded it for 7-08 and like it better. I think the 6.5 cm would be great in the FC.

That said if you don’t mind the recoil the ‘06 will give you more options. If you only keep one and sell off the other 2 then the 270 is the way to go.

I see the 6.5 as the sheep and deer rifle. Sell the .270. The -06 will make a better pairing with the 6.5 and be a perfect elk and plains game rifle.
I shot my last bull with a Fieldcraft in 6.5, it works for that too. If I had a -06 that was equally suited to the mountains, it would be be my choice for elk.

I’d think about ammo supply and reloading components, both pretty hard to find these days. 30-06 would be my pick.

If I could only keep one I probably would go with just the 270, but I have a suppressor on the way so that going on the 6.5 Creedmoor since it's already threaded. But I wouldn't really mind a 7mm 08 threaded too😁

I had a .30-06 and a .270, ended up selling the .30-06. I just wasn't crazy about the rifle it was chambered in. I can always pick up another .30-06 when I feel the need. For what I hunt the .270 and my .45-70 may just be enough, plus multiple big bore handguns.
