What is included in “all up”? Scope? Loaded? Bipod?

338 WSM on a tikka or medium action, honorable mention for 338 RCM in the same.

If only shooting to 600 and you want it light, no reason to hammer yourself with recoil. You say it’s not an issue because of a brake, but recoil makes shooting well more difficult regardless if you can live with it.

338 win mag will do all that and more. 225's at 2950 will kill just about anything in NA well past 600. Load up 250's for the big bears if you ever get to hunt them. Ammo and brass are always available just about everywhere.

Hey if you can show me a load with a 338 win pushing a 225 at 2950 I’m all ears.

Keeping it retail, I have a model 70 extreme weather in 325 wsm topped with a Ziess VX6 3-18x50 with Talley rings that weighs 8lbs 6oz. A lighter scope could bring you under 8lbs but isnt the .338 caliber you're looking for. I will be taking it to AK this fall for brown bear. I shoot 200 gr partitions out of it at 2915.

338 rum 26" proof sendero, lone peak or Mesa ti action, ag composites, manners, mcmillan or JGS carbon stock, should be around 6.8# choose your optics wisely and you'll have your goal. Will kill like crazy........I have a kimber Montana 338win that was cut to 24", added a ti bolt handle and alum bottom metal, weighs 7.7# with leupold vx6 2-12, it's punishing with no brake.

Recently picked up a 33 nosler in the m48 carbon and put a mark 5 leupold on it and it's 8lb 3 0z with a brake. It's an awesome rifle so far with the 265 accubonds.

The 338 RUM will do anything the 338-300 RUM will do in a much better package.

338 RUM, 340 Weatherby, 338 Lapua . . . great if you want to scratch an itch for the long range, but no matter how you set it up, there's more that you have to add compared to how you can set up the good ol' 338 WM. You can make the WM a true lightweight rifle with a brake, and you can even make good value with just a 24" barrel. In reality, those full magnum length cases only put you about 100 yds closer to your target. The 33 Nosler might be interesting but it's hardly a step of any significance.

And if 600 yds really is your max, know that the WM will still get you 2k ft-lbs and 2k fps at that distance.

338 Sherman Short.

You can build it in a short action or medium if you want a little room for reloading.

I was planning on building a 338-06AI for a long time, but when I finally decided to build a new rifle this summer, I did one last round of research and learned about the 338SS. Performance is comparable with a 338WM.

I now have all the parts ordered for it. Build goal was 7 pounds. Decided to save some funds, so should be closer to 7.5 pounds, all in.

Mine runs the 225 SST at 3000, over a heavy charge of Reloder 19. Factory A-bolt with 26" barrel. Probably over spec on pressure, but no signs whatsoever.

Even if you back off a tad and get 2900, still plenty of oomph for what the OP is looking for.

I had a Montana rifle co. X3 in 33 Nosler. Loved the cartridge but hated the rifle so it got rehomed and my Fierce edge in 33 Nos should be here within the week. I was getting right around 2,850fps with 250gr. Barnes LRX out of a 26" barrel. I can't speak to the edge as I've only handled it in store but I say steer clear of Montana rifle co. with their poor quality control and crap customer service.
