I searched this and didn't come back with any results, so here it is.
My browning BOSS 30/06 A bolt 2, I am to slow with for a second pig shot, so
I am seriously looking to a lighter round in a semi auto that will still knock a 250 pig off of its feet.
Looking towards a Mini 14 762/39 or I do have a 30 carbine semi auto, but I feel t is to light of a load.
what are your opinions ?

Run 308 in any platform. 30 carbine does not get it done. 300 aac 120 supersonic is so so. Just depends on how pissed off they are. Even with 308 I have had them get back up and take a run at me. I am usually on ground at night and shots are less than 100yds. Used partition, accubond and winchester Silvertip all have done well. I have not tried barnes tactx on 300aac....regular barnes tax were expanding maybe 20% and not making it through both shoulder plates.

Sir,
although I prefer to perforate porkers with something in 6.5 cal or larger diameter with a bullet that will leave two leaky holes, resulting in a blood trail a blind man can wade in, IMHO, its actually more about shot placement.

Browning A-Bolt, 308 Win, 150 Gr. factory soft points.

if you do your best to place your shot, 2" below the ear on an imaginary line between the ear and shoulder, you will not have to knock them off their feet. That shot sever's the spinal cord and they just drop and paddle. No tracking is necessary.

That can be accomplished with a triple deuce and 50 Gr. Nosler Ballistic tips!

Anywho,

338 Federal works,

308 Win AR-10 works

300 AAC Blackout works

6.5 Grendel works

223 loaded with 64 Gr. Nosler Solid base bullets works.

I knew when hogs and shot placement was discussed GDub would be here with his amazing rifles and pictures. I love seeing his perforated porker pictures on the fire.

AR Platform good option for 2nd, 3rd, 4th ….shot I liked the 6.8 SPC cartridge for hogs. I just don’t use it enough on other hunts.

Several guys I know run the 6.8's with the SuperHogster thermal on their AR's when doing night hunts! Hoglets start running and they start gunning! Almost as most fun as a guy can have with his britches on.

x2 6.8 AR with 110 gr SP. I habe one with NV and one without. I have killed more than one at a time with my A22win mag. Gotta shoot em in the ear hole! I hunt a lot swamps so I only take head shots...Blood trailing a pig into a swamp full of gators is not fun and swamp water in the cavity ruins the meat.

45-70 lever action with a peep sight or a holo. When you ask for something that will literally knock them off their feet, this will deliver.

AR10 would be my personal preference for large sounders in open fields. My all time favorite hog round is a 110gn Barnes blacktip in .300blk for up close & personal work. Low enough recoil, un-supressed to allow for quick, accurate follow ups & it definitely has the gas to do the job!

All that said though, if someone threw a grand at me & told me to build them the perfect, all around pig rifle, I'd absolutely be starting with a 6.8 SPC II barrel on an AR platform.

I found 7.62x39 to have better terminal performance than 6.8spc. I didn’t experiment with different 6.8 bullets too much because everything I tried in 7.62x39 worked great.

Damn. I need to start hog hunting. Wish we had them here (MD).
No you dont...the are a total PIA...if you see them in MD eradicate them immediately.

I have given up on food plots all together...spend 2 days putting one in those bastards destroy it in night..I have got a 50 hp tractor stuck several times trying to fix there mess. Also gave up on feeders they just push them over and destroy them...roads, crops, impounded dikes all destroyed in a night.

True - I was being a bit facetious. I know they are an environmental disaster. Still the idea of year round night shooting and plenty of free meat is intriguing.

That said, after looking at thermal scope prices - I don't see getting into it anytime soon ;-)

Garding a corn pile all night gets boring after a while...trust me. Some you shoot just aren't edible...rutting boars, the ones that have been feeding off dead carcass, not to uncommon to find them with open infected wounds too...
